Explorers discover MASSIVE cave

Link

A cave so huge helicopters can fly into it has just been discovered deep in the hills of a South American jungle paradise.

Actually, “Cueva del Fantasma”—Spanish for “Cave of the Ghost”—is so vast that two helicopters can comfortably fly into it and land next to a towering waterfall.

It was found in the slopes of Aprada tepui in southern Venezuela, one of the most inaccessible and unexplored regions of the world. The area, known as the Venezuelan Guayana, is one of the most biologically rich, geologically ancient and unspoiled parts of the world.

There’s the pic of the cave: http://www.livescience.com/images/060213_new_cave_02.jpg

Note the two tiny tiny helicopters in the foreground, at the edge of the waterfall pool. Wow.

Is it just me, or does that look more like a painting than a photo?

Wow. That is awesome.

Is it only the Stringfellow Hawke, the super-talented pilot of Airwolf, who can fly helicopters in and out of said cave, or can anyone do it?

Reminds me of those Genesis scenes from Star Trek 2.

Actually I was wondering why anyone would want to fly a helicopter into a cave. Because it’s there, I suppose.

Pretty impressive cave nontheless.

Maybe

Has something to do with it? Finding another landing spot free of vegetation nearby might not be easy.

I just find it exceptionally cool that there are still places on the surface of this planet that are unexplored.

I’d have thought we’d have mapped it all out by this point in our collective history.

I agree that it’s amazing when something new like this is found…it almost makes me want to get off my ass and go exporing!

Marshall, Will and Holly
On a routine expedition
Met the greatest earthquake ever known
High on the rapids It struck their tiny raft (insert screams here)
And plunged them down a thousand feet below
To the Land of the Lost
To the Land of the Lost
To the Land of the Lost

That’s awesome. I’m not surpirsed at all that there are places like this we haven’t discovered. It’s a big planet with a lot of remote areas.

Watch out for Sleestacks when you’re singing that.

If it’s any consolation we know more about the interior of the sun than we do about what’s beneath the sea.

As far as we know ;-)

What was that coin-op cartoo^H^H^H^H^H^H anime game where you flew a helicopter through a cave and around Easter Island, all the while engaging in hot helicopter-on-helicopter action? Circa 1986 or so shit I can’t think of the name AND IT’S TEARING ME APART

Cobra Command?

No need for a question mark there, he’s definitely talking about Cobra Command. Rad game.

Yeah, thanks! Can I get a WOOOO guy image?

Cobra Command. What an awesome game. The most memorable sequence I can think of is the Easter Island one, but man it had some great stuff.

Oh, shit. That’s where all the dragons are hibernating.

Don’t worry, some guy on a farm was just handled a pick ax and told to save the world. I think he’ll take care of them.
