Hard to remember the days when he would just lie and say his offspring wouldn’t be infesting the government.
You can just see Trump’s mind at work. “World Bank, eh? I bet there’s a lot of money there since it’s the bank for the entire world. And I can appoint its president? Hmm.”
World Bank is supposed to be the one that actually helps poor people.
As if Trump would ever consider nominating anyone who would view that as important. The sad fact is that Ivanka probably is the best from among any likely Trump choices.
As if Trump even knows what the World Bank does. He’s profoundly ignorant.
On the bright side, now he can take that long-postponed vacation to Uzbekibekibekistan.
Nice piece by Admiral Stavridis on the press blackout at the Pentagon and why it’s a bad precedent.

At this point shouldn’t it be a scoop only if a new appointee isn’t under ethics investigation? I think we can just assume everyone else is.

I literally assume that this is true. It’s the only way to be sure.

Joining the administration should be cause de jure for an ethics investigation.
Getting out of the Trump administration, without being fired or involved in scandal is actually a minor accomplishment.
I’d even included it on my resume “Energy secretary of the United States. 2016-2019. Accomplishment avoided most scandals, and negative nicknames by the President.” Raised average IQ and moral standards of administration. No nuclear weapons were stolen or exploded.
Whoah, let’s not go nuts. This is Rick Perry we’re talking about.

That’s weird. Department of Energy. Leader leaves. Nuclear Weapons portfolio. Hey, I wonder if that has anything to do with the tweet that @Dan_Theman shared on the Trump Wisdom thread:

At this point, what cabinet posts actually have someone occupying them?

Well I don’t think Carson is ever leaving HUD, though that’s partially due to his inability to physically locate the exit.
Yeah, is he an idiot savant or what? Show him a medical record of a patient with a neurological problem and he can fix it. Show him a picture of a pyramid and he concludes it’s a grain silo.
On a somewhat related-to-the-thread note : I feel like this entire fiasco with the Trump Administration appointing completely unqualified people to head major organizations followed by the mass exodus of actual qualified people who worked in said organizations should be a teachable moment for American Government.
Maybe it is time to stop doing leadership-by-appointment for these critical departments and organizations, and start promoting from within instead. Shouldn’t the person who runs the Department of Energy, or the person who is the Secretary of the Interior, or the person who heads FEMA or HUD be someone with years of actual experience within the organization who served as a deputy department head or similar leadership role? Shouldn’t we be trying to retain intelligent, experienced and talented people in these organizations instead of just swapping out figureheads every couple of years? Wouldn’t having someone with years of experience at the helm and a longer future tenure than half of a Presidential term lead to a lot more efficiency and better ideas/initiatives/solutions from these organizations?
I know…crazy talk.
Can’t make this stuff up, folks.
