Of course the stupid story about Dan Coats will be that he was an adult in the room, a force for moderation, and that we should be worried that his departure will make things worse. Lots of VSP will say this is so without one iota of evidence that it is actually true, and will wail about how bad Trump forced Coats out. But Coats is resigning, like all the others. He has not been fired. That’s…not resistance.
To be fair, this part is almost certainly true, alas.

When the economy dips into a recession, we’re going to have nothing left in the toolbox to stimulate the economy. I’m afraid it’s going to be bad, but I have no idea what to do about it. I’ve often said to my friends something along the lines of “Can you imagine if Trump was in charge during the financial crisis instead of Obama?” and I’m increasingly worried that I won’t have to leave it up to my imagination.
But we’ll have a Democrat in the White House shortly after that happens, so it’ll be his/her fault, and the GOP can bang the drum about “The Failing Economy Under Democrats!” and get Devin Nunes elected President in 2024.
