Just so I have this timeline straight, basically…

  1. The US enters into peace talks/ceasefire talks with The Taliban, the militant, radical fanatics who carried sharia law into Afghanistan and gave aid and comfort to Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden during the planning, execution, and aftermath of the 9-11 attacks.

  2. The US does not involve the sitting, lawfully elected Afghan government in these talks. Said government is at least, nominally, our ally.

  3. The US comes to a ceasefire agreement witht he Taliban, who again are the militant, radical fanatics who carried sharia law into Afghanistan and gave aid and comfort to Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden during the planning, execution, and aftermath of the 9-11 attacks. While a ceasefire here is probably a fine thing indeed (we need to GET OUT of there), there is still no substantial involvement with the lawfully elected Afghan government. That government, again, is a US ally.

  4. President Trump wants to hold an agreement signing with The Taliban, who are (in case anyone’s forgotten) the militant, radical fanatics who carried sharia law into Afghanistan and gave aid and comfort to Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden during the planning, execution, and aftermath of the 9-11 attacks. Trump wants to hold this signing ceremony at Camp David.

  5. He also wants to have that ceremony the week of 9-11 commemorations and memorials in the US.

National Security Adviser John Bolton,a crazy wackjob of a human whose idea of a diplomatic solution to adversarial states around the globe involves nuclear armed missile attacks, reacts strongly in the negative to this Camp David signing idiocy. Because it involves The Taliban.   7. Trump ignores Bolton and it’s full speed ahead on a Taliban love fest at Camp David – an extension of the White House, basically – for the week of 9-11-19.

  9. Bolton, again, (probably) advises nuclear strikes on all countries with brown people in them, starting with Afghanistan. But he especially advises that having the Taliban in the US – regardless of the merits of a ceasefire – the week of 9-11 is CRAZY.

  10. Trump decides that John Bolton’s flavor of crazy unhinged batshit nonsense is just not going to mesh with his own flavor of batshit crazy nonsense. And so while Bolton is preparing for a security briefing with the press that is to take place in 90 minutes, he’s fired via twitter.
