Rudy went full Colonel Jessup.

You never go full Colonel Jessup.

He’ll be dead in fewer than 10 years. Polonium doesn’t take that long.

Before I’d gotten down to your post, I turned to my wife and said, “looks like Giuliani went full Colonel Jessup on CNN”

Well, how much further does this latest fiasco move the impeachment clock forward?

In this timeline? Not an inch.

Pelosi is playing it right. There’s little public support for an impeachment this close to an election. The Dems are better off winning the presidential election against Trump. If he wins a second term, then they can proceed with impeachment proceedings.

Nonsense. She’s been dragging her ass long before “this close to an election” became a term apologists started using.

Eh, not really.

For one thing, she gave her full support for the impeachment inquiry that’s currently underway. And she seemed somewhat at least amenable to it months ago, but public support for an impeachment is pretty low and has been dropping steadily – even with Democratic voters.

I’d like someone to explain to me how impeaching Trump, even if not ultimately convicted, will sway independant voters to vote for this horrible person. We know his supporters won’t care and we know his detractors will vote against him. What damage is done if the House impeaches and the Senate fails to convict?

I am thinking it’s more of a timing element. Get it all happening next year so the crimes Trump has committed and the Republicans who still support him are highlighted right before the election.

And yet, he won the first time. It’s about the electoral college. It’s also about mobilizing your base. Swinging and missing will demoralize democratic voters while getting republicans out to vote in greater numbers.

Many Americans want to see the democratic process preserved and see impeachment as a nuclear option that circumvents that.

Impeaching now (or any time before the election is over) would be a very politically foolish move. The ideal is what is going on now: impeachment investigations to gather ammunition for the 2020 election without officially drawing up articles of impeachment. If Trump wins a second term, then pull the trigger.

If you don’t impeach now then the message is it’s not about justice, what is right, or upholding the rule of law. It’s just politics as usual.

It’s about control and policy. It’s about governing. Risking that to “get Trump” is foolish. If Trump is out of office, move on or, depending on what crimes come to light, prosecute Trump the private citizen.

So, again, there’s an impeachment inquiry that’s been begun. I keep seeing that the Democrats need to impeach the President. They’ve begun that process. This is what that looks like.

But…ultimately doing something that’s unpopular does not make that thing popular. Ask Republicans about their attempts to repeal Obamacare.

Republicans right now are playing into the Democrats hands by stonewalling and fighting every subpeona they see. That has dragged the process to a crawl…which helps to make sure that impeachment inquiries and hearings will be in the news throughout much of 2020.

I’m very conflicted on what to do with impeachment politically.

As matter of principal, what Trump has done and the stuff with Ukraine is yet another example, must rise to the level of impeachment or the impeachment clause, rule of law, no person above the law, and other platitudes have no meaning.

i think the lack of assertiveness by the House Democrats plays into Republican’s hands, they look like losers and I bet it demoralizes the base. At some point, I think the principle trumps politics.

What is popular shouldn’t be the deciding factor. Leadership isn’t about taking kids to the ice cream store because it is popular, it getting men to charge up a hill to take the pillbox on top because it has to be done.

More or more impeaching this President seems like taking the pillbox on the hill.

You realize that’s a parody account right?

I honestly wasn’t sure. The twitter account had a link to NK website but, now I see you are right.

After the North Koreans actually did sponsor an essay contest with the top prize being a trip to North Korea, I figured anything was possible.

In this reality shard, it can be difficult to tell.

Good fucking questions.
