I think this is right. The Kabuki of the modern GOP is revanchist intolerance wrapped in liberating laisse-fair policies. Basically encouraging our allies to be killed - well, it isn’t that the GOP cares per se but that they are forced to publicly declare that they don’t care which erodes their whole facade.

The GOP really needs some kind of leveraged position that they can tip toe, fearfully and regretfully and with armpits wet with terror, toward removing a President their crazy base loves. But Fox is turning against him now and that’s when you know the spaghetti is starting to hit the fan for Trump because it’s going to provide them the permission they haven’t got the courage to do without.

Jesus, this is the exact right word, Enidigm. It never occurred to me it could be applied to the United States. And not just for “liberating laisse-fair policy,” but for returning to a time when old white men never had to defer to women, minorities, or immigrants, or even treat them as equals.

I won’t lose hope until after the 2020 election. But if that doesn’t save us, I’m all-in with @DeForrestation’s cynicism.
