We just had a user ID here pop up on the delete list with the name James Kirk.

…I knew it was bogus when I noticed in the ID the middle initial was T.

Que?5

Tiberius.

Yes, I know. How does that make the ID bogus?

The odds of someone really having the name of James Kirk aren’t too farfetched? But the odds of someone actually being named James T Kirk are just silly, and it’s 99% not a real user name?

Wasn’t the (literal) captain of a new Navy ship, named something Star Trek related, James Kirk?

USS Zumwalt. James A. Kirk.

Guy who bought a phone from my buddy who works at Verizon was named James T Kirk. My buddy even asked to see his ID for proof.

So, it happens!

I mean, the fictional James T. Kirk was popularized circa 1966-1969, which was 50 years ago, and is/was the subject of near-cultish fan levels of enthusiasm. The odds of some adult being named James T. Kirk are very much non-zero.

And their curse shall be that they are removed from every database.

…lo, unto the third generation.

Maybe his parents were Trekkers. That’s the danger in being born to a family with a last name like Kent, Parker, Wayne, Bond, Potter or Skywalker. Through no fault of your own, you could wind up with a name like Moonchild Kirk.

Nah, just the Next Generation.

You should be banished to a Far Point.

ponders whether to reignite the Trekkie vs. Trekker War

that was uncalled for

Great. Now I’m getting looks from coworkers.

And that’s how we wound up with a technician driving around a neighbourhood to provide service at 123 <insert prgorammer’s name here> street.

I’m quite proud of this thread derail. :)
