Trump: “Hold my keg.”

Keg of… fried chicken, in his case? Or maybe bootleg Sudafed.

(‘the meeting’ was Trump and Saudi vice minister of defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman)

I thought this post was interesting.

Why do you think it’s interesting?

None of those previous presidents had an 80%+ approval rating from their own party over the course of their term. That’s why trump’s numbers stay consistent despite whatever fucked up thing he’s doing at the moment. Most all Republicans support, most all Democrats detract, and the tiny wishy-washy middle says eh? depending on the day. (His lowest numbers came during the effort to repeal ACA fwiw.)

I think one interesting takeaway is that there’s really very little “middle” with Trump. His approval is almost completely unaffected by events, which means that there are not a bunch of people whose opinion of him is being shifted as different things happen. This is perhaps what comes from the constant barrage of media and the availability of a state media arm.

Combined with the new realization that morality and shame are no longer required by the Republican party.

All you have to do is lie and deny everything. State Media will support you and then you just have to wait out the news cycle.

Curious who you mean by state media? Fox is obviously biased, but also private.

Not sure if serious.

FOX News is a defacto communications wing of the White House. The New York Times’ editorial board will happily help out when needed, and when all else fails, you can have Sinclair media push a “must broadcast” message out to their dozens of local affiliates.

Here’s another segment that was a “must run.”

I’m having trouble with data that shows, among other things, Jimmy Carter as more popular than Reagan.

I was confused as well until I realized it’s only through the first 1082 days. Presumably Reagan got a lot more popular later on. Obama as well.

1082 days is 3/4 of a presidential term. What a bizarre cutoff point.

Checks calendar

It’s the amount of days Trump has been in office.

Ah, that makes sense. I don’t like it, but it makes sense. I’d have shown the entire term for each former president and just left Trump’s line to fade into Here There Be Dragons land.

If you go to 538, you can actually set the charts to show the full terms (and then Trump’s line just cuts off at the current number of days in)

This is extremely dangerous to our democracy.
