China basically locked down every city in the country for the first half of February. The US CDC is keeping track of incoming arrivals (I have a friend that was checked on a few times by phone after coming from HK, told to home quarantine), but it’s a very light touch compared to anywhere in Asia.
China probably really overdid it, which is why they are reversing course everywhere but the epicenter. IMO the US is way too laid back about it, so we’ll probably see some policy tightening in the next 2 weeks…
I was hospitalized at least once ever year growing up (until age 15) with pneumonia or acute bronchitis. My pediatrician told my mom he thought I held the record at the time for surviving the most cases of double pneumonia. Lots of oxygen tents during those stays.
So, yeah, the thought of it spreading here state-side or me catching it over in Italy now that I’m 55 is scary.

Let it go, it’s not like anyone ever accomplished anything in Afghanistan for the past three thousand years. It was pure fucking hubris to begin with.
Didn’t someone once dub it the “graveyard of empires”?
The title is … absurd. I mean, it just reads as pure satire.

Trump is the King Midas of shit. Everything he touches…
It reads like someone’s 7th grade homework, just begging for a teacher’s red pen to be applied.

There you go insulting seventh graders…
I was astonished to learn that Tony Fauci is still heading NIAID. He was the right guy in the early days of response to HIV, but he’s 80 years old. He needs to do more now than claim to be ‘not muzzled’.
Definitely worthy of the onion.
I’m definitely using “which is not recognized by the United States as a state” at some point.
Erm. How is he planning to go to classes with a job in DC? I guess no need for a diploma anymore, high school is good enough for the Trumps.
So I gather Mulvaney’s out. What did he do to displease His Imperial Majesty, anyway?
Oh right, the “get over it” press conference slip up on saying out loud what the holding up of Ukraine’s military aid was all about. Wow, that was a while ago. I thought it was something more recent.
It seems the President* never lets go of a dollar or a grudge if he can help it.
Second time in 10 days they’ve hire an undergrad. WH must be shit duty for seasoned folks in DC.
"A 23-year-old senior attending George Washington University has been tapped to fill a top role in the White House’s Presidential Personnel Office (PPO), Politico reported Tuesday.
The PPO, according to the White House’s website, oversees “the selection process for presidential appointments and works to recruit candidates to serve the president in departments and agencies throughout the Executive Branch.
According to Politico, which cited three administration officials familiar with the reported hire, James Bacon, who is currently studying for his bachelor’s degree, will be the office’s next director of operations. "
I’m surprised he wasn’t sent to the Aleutian Islands or something. :-D
