Oh, man. That book. So epic.

Fair enough. It does have a picture of the book with that button but I can see how it could be confusing.

Need steam cloud saves please.
Stupid installer that didn’t check the free space of the hard disk before installing, failed in the middle of the process, and after that it would be trapped in a cycle of “automatic uninstall mode” that also failed because it couldn’t find a key and then restarted the uninstall again.
Thank god I’m an IT guy who knows how to clean the temp files and the Windows registry, but a more casual user would be fucked and using restore points.

Stupid installer didn’t communicate with Win7 in the way it wanted it to, so it assumed the installer crashed just after installing some C runtimes and such. It didn’t actually crash, but it did begin running about 10x slower and lagging my PC horribly afterward. Looks like it finally finished, though I can’t play for a day or two thanks to some nasty work at home needing to be taken care of.

Just as an FYI, from Brad on the Elemental/FE homepage:
To Beta Testers: Readying for today’s release!
Posted on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 by Frogboy
Greetings!
Today’s the big day. In fact, 2 hours from now 1.0 will go live.
Now, to save yourself pain and aggravation please do the following: UNINSTALL the beta. Completely. That also means go into the my games\fallen enchantress directory and rename it to something else (or delete it entirely). Edit: ensuring that \program files (x86)\stardock games\FallenEnchantress is also cleaned out is a good sanity check from after the beta.
Don’t take any chances. Start from a clean setup.
I uninstalled, but it doesn’t get rid of the “my games\fallen enchantress” stuff unless you do it manually. I think this is stuff like Sovereigns and Civs that you’ve custom defined.

Same, except I’m on Vista. After it finished unpacking all the files, I immediately got an installer crash message. I thought the whole thing went down, but then it started configuring stuff. Hope my install isn’t horribly corrupted in some subtle way.

Uninstallers typically don’t uninstall custom data automatically. Sometimes games give you the option to deleted saved games and custom stuff, but not always. That way if you decide to reinstall your custom data is still there.

Okay, that totally makes sense. Anyway, if you’ve played the beta, don’t forget to delete this stuff as noted by Brad’s post.
“Janusk is dead”. Heh.
A UI suggestion: In the case you movement enough, shouldn’t be better to click on an unit attack-type ability and then click on the enemy to execute it?, with the game alone moving the unit to the enemy enough to execute the ability.
I don’t like having to move first close to the enemy, then select the ability, then click on him.
What if you have more than one target? Or what if you want your unit to pass so he gets the defensive bonus?
-Tom
If you have more than one target, it isn’t relevant, you are clicking on the target itself.
If you want to pass, then pass. I don’t see how that is relevant. I suspect you haven’t understand me. I just want the unit to auto-move when I use an attack-like ability (that needs to move to a certain range, and only if it can be done in the same turn).
How is the game supposed to know which square you want to stand in?
The tactical combat is already pretty pared down. I’m not sure why you’re fussing about having to handle movement separately from abilities, which is how pretty much every tactical combat game has worked in the history of forever.

Loving most of this from starting up a couple of quick games.
My two relatively minor UI peeves so far…
– Is there any way to see the path & time it will take to get to a certain location? The way the “G” key works in Civ 5 is pretty much ideal.
– Is there a way to get your guys to take their “pre-planned” moves at the beginning of the turn rather than when you hit “next turn” and thus have no time to react to anything that happens as a result of their move?
Same here, something about the Microsoft Studio 2008 installer? Maybe this was meant to be removed before release, but wasn’t…?
In Civ V, units with Go To orders are executed after the End Turn button is pressed, yet the turn doesn’t end if the units still have available MPs. In this case, the End Turn button returns and you’re allowed to finish ordering those units (this wasn’t always the case in the game; it was patched in).
IMO, FE should handle it the same way, since units the player’s manually ordering might reveal something that would cause the player to revise Go To orders. For this reason, I prefer to have Go To orders executed after End Turn is pressed, provided the turn doesn’t end when units have unspent MPs.
Hmm. How you guys install the game?
I downloaded the .exe.
Right click the file and extract to subfolder
Delete the .exe
Right click and extract the .7z file to FallenEnchantress folder
Delete .7z file
Ready to play.
No errors so far.
If only every game/software was like this, no cluttering in registry, uninstall strings and whatnot. Suppose they could have one of those “Games for Windows” files so it registers itself under /games if activated.

Wow, it’s like night and day when viewed alongside elemental. I played a few turns and immediately uninstalled elemental. I’m very happy with FE.
The installer (downloaded the game from Stardock, as my freebie for having been afflicted with Elemental) is wonky; first time it gave me some bizarre error and then the game failed to start (with an even weirder error about bad side by side something or other), but I simply uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked fine, though the installer actually crashed during the installation, or at least that’s what a pop-up said.
But it works, and yeah, it’s already better than Elemental.

For me the installer, once run, takes up 99% of my RAM and does nothing. This is on Win 7 64 bit. No way to kill the process including Process Explorer. I deleted it and am re-downloading now.
I have it as a super trusted exe in Zone Alarm. All green. I have checked the registry for any iteration of FE, all clear.
So hopefully the installer was corrupt and the new download will fix things. I hope so. I really love this game.
