I’m basically done with Fallout 3 at this point. I don’t care if it’s incompatible with the 186 nvidia drivers, my 260 card, direct x, .net, the os, etc. I’ve spent 10+ hours just trying to make the fucker run again (I’ve done everything but reinstall the OS). I can run in windowed mode for a lot longer, but even that eventually crashes.

I’m a computer guy, I code and fix computers for a living, so I have at least some idea of what I’m doing here. Been a long time since I’ve had a game I couldn’t eventually make run.

SO FRUSTRATING! ;(

Oh well, I guess I’ll go play The Witcher again since that game at least runs on my system.

Question: How can I move my GFWL DLC from one computer to another?

Here’s my guess Rob. (I haven’t purchased anything from GFWL yet, but I’m guessing they modeled it on XBL)

After starting the GFWL client on the new machine (which doesn’t have the content you want yet), go to the media tab. Then click on “All Items”, and there the downloads you have purchased will show up. Now if it works like Xbox Live, there will be an option there to download the content again on this new machine that you’re running this client on.

Or, simply copy the DLC files from one computer to the other via whatever methods you normally use to move files from computer to computer, and stick them in the Data folder in the Fallout 3 folder like you would any old mod.

Patch 1.7 just downloaded from GFWL. I have no idea what it fixed, if anything. I bet it was just stuff to prep for the Mothership Zeta DLC. :-/

Most likely. The same was true for version 1.6, all it did was add support for Point Lookout.

Word is that it’s fixing the “lock on exit” problem that Point Lookout introduced for a lot of people. I haven’t tried it yet myself, though.

Wonder if it fixes the falling-through-the-floor bugs that Point Lookout apparently added to The Pitt in a few spots.

Does it break any of the popular mods?

Eh not that I can see, normal patch issues though.

I’m hoping it fixes the “early” Enclave appearances that Broken Steel introduced, where Enclave patrols appear before the Enclave even comes on the scene later in the game as it did before Broken Steel.

Doesn’t seem to have fixed the slow quicksave problem for me (or at least, not completely) but it did fix the crashing-on-shutdown issue.

I actually thought a mod caused that and was searching for a bit to work out which it was. But, Broken Steel making the game incredibly hard when you just happen to walk into an immediately hostile power armoured group of guys with high tech weaponary just after escaping the Vault. That’s just low.

1.7 fixed the crash on exit for me as well.

1.7 fixed crash on exit, but the game is so unstable on my rig it’s unplayable, which makes me sad.

I’m fine in a building, but when I get out on the wasteland it likes to crash.

I’m pretty sure it’s my SLI. I tried it without, and it became stable, but was so slow and choppy as to again be unplayable.

I have two 8800GT’s, and upgraded my drivers yesterday, to no avail. It also may be that it’s hot here, and my rig is running hot. I’m going to install the AC in my office today and hope that cooling things down helps.

For what it’s worth, I ran Fallout pretty much at max with my 8800GT before it went bang, so any slowness or choppiness isn’t a pure performance issue.

Huh. Well, it was fine until I fast traveled into the middle of a firefight, then everything went to hell. VATS was a slideshow. Maybe it was just a glitch in that area.

Dean

That’s exactly the problems I have. On an Nvidia 260. Inside works fine, outside crashes consistently.

Latest everything doesn’t help at all.

I’ll try the 1.7 patch for shits and giggles…

My game constantly crashes also…I just picked up all the DLC and I can’t even play the game because it constantly crashes. Makes me sad :(

Tried it tonight w/o SLI again. I’ve just got finished with the Talon Company camp. There’s a tent at the bottom of a crater. I kill a dog at distance with my sniper rifle, then there’s a guy pacing back and forth inside the tent.

If I use a Stealthpack the game crashes. If I sneak up, he sees me and shoots a rocket at me. As soon as he shoots the rocket the game crashes every time.

I guess I could just fast travel somewhere else and hope. I was having such a great time with the game until the DLC patches broke it for me.

I’ve been replaying the game using VATS and it is rather screwed up. Sometimes the action is totally clear and yet most of the time is complete screwed up. A burry pixelated mess. Is this common? Is there a fix? I’m Fallout 3 on the pc with all available dlc but no mods. Version 1.7.
