That doesn’t look right at all, Rob.

So I have now tried FO3 with PhysX disabled (hey, it was worth a try), and I just got rid of GFWL using the remover file linked earlier in this thread.

Getting rid of GFWL proved interesting. Back in the Talon camp, I killed the guy with the missile launcher before he could shoot, so no crash there, then I went down in the sewers via a manhole in the tent. In the sewers, there was another guy with a missile launcher. If I brought him into view, the HUD and my weapon would disappear and framerate would slow to a crawl, but if I then stepped back, the HUD and my weapon would come back and framerate would go back to normal.

I went back and forth, moving in and out of this area and it was pretty clearly delineated.

I then decided to switch from the plasma rifle to the sniper rifle, and when I brought up my PiPBoy, the game crashed.

Also, I’ve noticed that when I go into VATS lately, I get 0% chance to hit on shots that previously would’ve been 95% chance headshots (I’m kitted out with all the sniper perks). I’ve been having to shoot people in real time, which is a waste of my Action Point perks.

What the Hell? Dean and Rob, your experiences with this game are wacky.

I’m sorry it sucks. I love Fallout 3 and would hate it if it started going haywire.

I installed the 1.7 patch last night and I ran into the exact same thing. Exiting out of VATS and going back into it right away always seemed to result in the correct numbers showing up, but yeah, weird. This was on a newish character with none of the relevant perks, and for me every body area was showing up at 0%.

I was wondering about that. I was playing last night and exited Megaton on a new character to complete the 600 rad mission and on the other side of the hill came across an Enclave guy. I killed him and scored a nice shiny powersuit armor (that I can’t use yet). ;) I am using the 1.7 patch and have all 5 DLC packs now installed. My game seems to be quite stable and has not crashed at all.

You exited Megaton to complete that mission?

Well, this afternoon I uninstalled and reinstalled my video drivers (Nvidia 190.38), and still got crashes. So I went poking around in the advanced settings. I turned off anti-aliasing (which was set to 8) and have now managed to get through the Talon base camp and through Little Lamplight without a crash.

There were some weird artifacts in Little Lamplight-- flashes of something in certain areas, but as long as it doesn’t crash, I’m happy. I am somewhat walking around on pins and needles, using VATS sparingly, and avoiding vistas.

I’m now in Vault 87. Woot!

If this had happened early in the game, there’s no way I would’ve put this much time and effort into making it work. They’re lucky I was already level 21 when they patched in the crashing.

Yeah I went to the water tower on the other side of the hill and drank the water to get the rads. Maybe there was an easier way. :)

And for the other poster yes I was also using the 190.38 nVidia driver on a GTX285. I have antialiasing at default (8 from memory) and no crashes or artifacts.

Drinking the water from the pool near the bomb would have saved you a walk.

I did a search, couldn’t find this mentioned but swore it came up before.

Did you know that Fallout 3 has Cos players in Russia?

Wonder how well the game sold there?

Those can’t be strictly Fallout 3 cosplayers. I don’t think we’ve seen those robes since Fallout 2.

The STALKER players put those guys to shame.

No AA worked for you Dean? I tried that before to no success. I’ll try again with the 1.7 patch.

Such a pain in that ass that it just doesn’t work… This kind of shit makes me want to be a console gamer.

Currently I’m setup like this:

No AA
No GFWL
SLI Enabled
PhysX Enabled
Broken Steel DLC
Port Lookout DLC
190.38 Nvidia drivers
FO3 v1.7
Running via Steam

How do the addons work without GFWL, just copied them over with that removal utility?

Yeah. I miss my achievements though. Ah well, grabbed DOWII over the weekend and have been getting them there.

Hell with that. Head to the nearest toilet and CHUZZLE THAT SHIT DOWN!

I mean, it has ELECTROLYTES.

It’s what plants crave!

So I’ve loaded myself up with updated mods, gotten all the DLC, and I’m ready to dive back into the game.

One problem. Loading anything related to the CRAFT mod, (which creates a modular menu for installing additional schematics,) causes the game to crash on startup.

Did one of the recent patches bork the CRAFT mod?

You’d be better off asking on the Bethsoft F3 mod forums.

I’d just like to say that I played Fallout 3 for 4 hours yesterday without a crash.

So I guess I’m back in business. 120+ hours played. I’m also on the endgame, so there was a weird scripting glitch.

My giant robot got stuck halfway across the bridge. He just stood there. I don’t know why.
