Wow, talk about needing some middle ground here.

There are bugs in Fallout 3 which Bethesda are unable to, or unwilling to fix. It may be, and is frustrating if they make the game unplayable, but is there any point getting worked up and defensive over what other people say on the messageboard? Not like it will change anything. Matt, good luck with the format and Windows 7 install, hopefully that may fix it.

I have my own bug with Fallout 3 (and also with Oblivion), whereby the tilde key doesn’t work with my current setup due to a conflicting driver (which makes no sense to me). I am thankful however that the solution is easy, to just uninstall the driver, however there isn’t really much point laying the blame at Bethesda for the problem, because within that programming, well I can only imagine it wouldn’t be easy to rectify, for something that affects a very small sample of the population.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying fixing bugs isn’t hard. Especially on the PC where you don’t have control of so many different variables. That said, I don’t have these problems with any other game currently. shrugs It is what it is. Whether it’s because they can’t reproduce it, don’t have the resources to fix it, or just don’t think the problems are big enough to worry about, it’s happening.

That’s really my point. There are bugs. Annoying ones.

I’m really hoping that a format and reinstall fixes it. We’ll find out pretty soon with any luck. I just can’t bring myself to go through the whole thing for Fallout 3 right before I do it for Windows 7. So I wait.

The only times that Fallout 3 ‘crashes’ are when i alt-tab out of the game to check other applications. The first time it works, the second it doesn’t crash but the game stays ‘out of focus’ and i can’t bring it back anymore.

I also have one issue with the radio where it kind stops working if i leave it on while loading levels. Seems to be something with the audio files from the default radios because the Existence2.0 radio works all the time without problems :s

Other than that, i can’t stop playing it. Hooray for vacations.

Someone asked about which mods to install for a first time player: i only installed the Hi-Res textures ones(Megaton, Rivet City, Weapons, Terrain, etc) and the Existence2.0 radio.

I guess that the slower leveling one might be good but i intend to only focus on the main quest with this playthrough so i don’t think i need to slow down the XP gain that much for now.

I’ll check out everything else on a second one, this time with some gameplay changing ones (FWE at least).

I have the same problem. So I just don’t bother alt-tabbing unless I really, really need to for some reason. However, the game also seems to occasionally decide to minimize for some impenetrable reason. Which makes the not being able to re-focus the window incredibly annoying.

I’ve had the alt-tab problem and the radio problem as well. I’m OK without the radio, but then I hadn’t ventured into the recommended radio mods yet. Like others I was able to put up with the alt-tab issue for the most part. Naturally, after three or four experiences of of end-tasking and reloading the game again in a given session, I tend to feel a little less inclined to fire it up again unless I happen to be in the middle of something particularly important, but things usually work out OK. That was until a few nights ago, when the game started freezing and effectively crashing whenever I hit F5 at the Deathclaw Sanctuary. No changes on my end. If it persists it could very well be it for me, but we’ll see.

Yeah, alt tab use to work fine but it no longer works for me, kind of inconvenient at times.

After not playing the since Feb, I started a new character (I am getting the Broken Steel/Pitt expansion next week). I was surprised that suddenly I was getting lots of freezes (I didn’t before), and alt Tab almost never worked. I updated the NVidia drivers and the freeze went away :), the Alt-Tab still fails most of the time.

Yeah, I don’t know which DLC did it, but I can’t alt-tab anymore after I added them all in.

It’s not DLC related because i still haven’t got any DLC installed.

really? I had no trouble at all before I installed the DLC. Patch issue, maybe?

Um…I seemed to have misplaced my companion. Any idea how to get him back? He disappeared leaving the Tranquility Vault.

Each companion usually returns to a specific location. For example, the BoS companion returns to the BoS citadel. If they haven’t, then try fast traveling somewhere.

Anyone remember to whom I sell these blasted fingers? It’s been months and I’m racking up quite a count.

Take 'em to Regulator HQ (to the West of Canterbury Commons).

I didn’t have to look that up, even though I haven’t played all that recently. That kind of bothers me.

Bethesda sent me a code for a premium Fallout 3 theme for the 360 as a thank-you for buying all five DLC packs a couple days ago; apparently, due to a glitch of some sort, they just sent me another one.

Whoever punches it in first gets it :)

Maybe this will provoke me into finally continuing my game? Left the radio station, tried to sneak across a plaza with my dog and got slaughtered; got distracted by some other shiny game and never returned to muddy brown post-apocalyptic goodness.

Well whomever took the code should say so, I had hopes very high :(

thanks anyway Talisker

That’s pretty cool, actually.

I have two codes as well…I just need to make sure the first one works and if it does I’ll send the second to the first person to PM me.

Saw some talk upthread about flaws in Fallout3 and I was going to politely inform everyone that the console version is fine but then I thought it would make some people angrier. This thread also made me play the game again after 2months and wouldn’t you know, the game locks up after 25min! Maybe my 360 just needs to get used to it again.

And silly me, I had lost a 10hr game due to constant locking when it first came out but I had forgotten.

Okay, I hit level 15 on my first playthrough last night. Still haven’t really touched the main quest, but I was wondering when I should get the DLC. If I load it in now, will I spoil the main game for myself? Or if I wait until I finish, can I go back with my guy and play through the new content, or do I have to start over? Should I avoid any of the packages, I know there’s like 1000* of them by now?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I know this is the spoiling non-spoiler thread, so I didn’t want to go through it very carefully.

*Or five.
