I am just bored of Fallout 4 and am trying to squeeze a little more gameplay out of it, so I figured Id mess the the settlers thing. I am annoyed you can’t hang lights from trees.

Happiness is confusing me. Last night I saw that some settlement that I forgot I set up a tower in had 12 settlers and 3% happiness. Oops. Popped over to the area and found out it has 2 beds, 3 food, 3 water and 0 defense. No wonder they were upset. Assigned one of the settlers on a supply line to Sanctuary to take care of the food/water situation, built up the defense to 36-ish and built a two story shack with 15 beds (in case other folks showed up later). All that managed to raise their happiness to… 13%. What?
Although, at the end of the day, happiness doesn’t seem to do a damn thing. I thought happiness might impact how many people join your settlement (or even cause some of them to leave), but that appears not to be the case given my 3% happiness/12 population hell hole.

That is console commands gone wild ;) He’s doing a whole series of them. 100 Supermutants vs 1,000 glowing ones is pretty cool, too.
Bethesda’s games make good sandboxes on PC.

Don’t people in Ireland have jobs? How do they have time to do all of this? Ha

Does anyone know if there is any kind of out door light like a street lamp you can get? I would like to light up the roads of sanctuary but I do not see anything I can make a light pole out of.
35 hours in, I finally made it to Diamond City.
I saw a pic where you can hang lights from the old street lamps.
I am glad I listened to the podcast – I may have missed something early on that sounded important enough to get — btw Tom’s top criticism of Fallout 4 was settlements (I think) and it was also his top thing that was done right. After ten years of reading his reviews I just figure that’s par for the course. Sweet irony in juxtaposition with controversy.
Interestingly podcast-wise there was no criticism of the graphics a la game world and engine. I was stunned by the graphics myself. Is there something a lot better out there? I’ve been playing Dragon age: Inquisition a bunch and that’s nice but …
Finally I m starting over cause I don’t like my hair style. I want a ponytail. Who battles the minions of the apocalypse with long hair in your eyes? Not me.

You can get haircuts fairly easily, no need to start over. You can actually change your whole appearance if you want.
As far as graphics, Witcher 3 raised the bar quite a bit. People still look… wrong. Terrain and other things are alright, though nothing special (assuming you don’t get rampant texture issues, like I did, then it can look horrific). Basically the game looks a lot like Skyrim, except most people look more like people, but still not at the level you’d really expect these days.
The graphics look fine to me, except when it rains. Every person and at least some surfaces (I particularly remember a red car) gets covered in a shiny plastic look that just looks terrible. I usually don’t notice graphics in games, and those rainy face textures just stand out as so bad that it actually takes me out of the game somewhat. The fact that that red car actually stood out enough to make me remember it is sad.
I just want to enjoy the gameplay, not notice the graphics. I feel that rainy textures are the one area of graphics they just did really, really wrong.
I lined up basketball goals down the street and hung light bulbs from them with the conduits hidden behind the goal.

There is that gutsball. I was looking for a pole. They really dropped the ball on outdoor lighting.

So I’ve been exploring for a few hours and the only quests I have are Corvega Factory and Diamond City. Both seem way to above my level (5). Advice?
Explore around the starting area more. The game content is supposed to be harder the father away from the starting “corner” of the map.

I am about 40 hours in and so far Kellog’s Outfit has been the best (non Power Armour) that I have found.
Sound about right? Or am I doing something wrong?

If you’re talking strictly about stats I think just about any t-shirt with jeans and combat armor pieces would provide more protection.
I’m too lazy to put on individual armor pieces so I stick with my best one-piece and decent headgear. I’m constantly switching between combat gear and my +3 CHR outfit when I talk to NPC’s. Like someone mentioned, it would have been nice if there was a way to configure swappable armor sets.

Are you sure? It provides a Damage Resistance of 30 armor and 30 energy.
