For some reason I don’t care about DLC since I probably won’t return to the game. Same with Witcher 3, most likely the same with X-Com2…

I tend to complete games I really enjoy and then never return. DLC? Couldn’t care less.

The first two mods on this don’t even sound like they will be worth the full asking price based on what they have stated. Not quite horse armor, but not quite not horse armor either.

Far Harbor… for $25 i expect like a full expansion, not a 5 hour bag of reused assets. They might pull it off as skyrim had some pretty good content DLCs, but skyrim also had low value DLC too.

I think what they have announced has made the season pass “probably” worth the original asking price, but they are going to need to add A LOT more to make it worth $50. I bought it on release since it was on sale for like $20 and i’ve felt it was one of my biggest mistakes in recent years. I still feel like bethesda could have handled it a lot better, but maybe some day it will be worth the $20 i spent. I would not spent $50 on the season and i would not give them the benefit of the doubt based on how they have acted since release of Fallout 4.

I don’t really get all the hate about this new pricing idea for DLCs. If we were doing it the old way, you’d simply have to buy them separately or wait for the GOTY thing later. You can still do this. Its not like any options have disappeared. All they’ve done is add new ones. Buy all them up front for a discount if you know you are the kind of person who would have bought them all anyway. Makes me wish Paradox would offer the same when I’m thinking about getting back into one of their titles after a layoff and realize they’ve relased 9 expansions in the last year.

I think the difference is that with Season Passes (not just Bethesda’s) the companies are asking you to buy something up-front with incomplete information. Sometimes that works out, but sometimes you get a Batman Arkham Knight and the completed Season Pass content isn’t worth the price to most people. It’s a gamble which is inherently stacked in favor of the house.

Even with the released details of their plans for the first three DLC chunks, Bethesda is asking people to buy the Fallout 4 pass with the promise that they’re going to deliver an extra $20 worth of stuff down the line. What that will consist of is completely unknown. Added to that is the sales pressure tactic of the limited time to get this for $30 before the price goes up to $50.

On the one hand, it’s all optional, so caveat emptor. On the other hand, there is a reason that people get paid large sums of money to teach sales psychology. It works. And if the Steam top sellers page is any indication right now, it’s working for Bethesda quite well.

What new pricing idea? seasons passes are old now i’d say. The only new thing is increasing the price as times goes by, not lowered it.

I already bought it on release for $20, so i don’t care about the price going up personally. My main annoyance is that bethesda has been extremely slow in announcing what was including and then also releasing the content. Post release support has also been pretty meh.

Compare the fallout 4 season pass with the xcom 2 one. Only time will tell if the fallout 4 season ends up being worth $20 or even $50.

Then don’t buy it? Again, I don’t get this kind of outrage because they are offering a discounted option you don’t have to take. You can choose to buy or not as each DLC comes along. Nobody is being screwed. Sure, it would be nice to know exactly what all they are going to do for your $30, but if you have your doubts about Bethesda then nothing they announce will change your mind on that anyway.

psst!

It’s really not that big a deal as you make it out to be. What they have announced so far for the DLC is worth at least $20 IMO (though they say it is worth more). I’m pretty sure I’ll get at least another $10 worth out of it whatever else they include. For anyone who pre-orders, all they should care about if it’s worth at least $30 because that’s what they are paying. Who cares whether it’s worth $50 or not - they just want it to be worth at least what they paid. If you are are worried about it being worth $50, then wait and see if it is worth $50 and pay that (after all if it’s worth $50, you’d be willing to pay that, right?)

Based upon what they have announced so far, if you want Fallout 4 DLC, IMO, I don’t see any reason to wait, or much if any risk to buying now.

“I’m not sure this will be worth it”
“OH MY FREAKING GOD STOP FREAKING OUT!”

Seriously, there is no outrage here. I’m just kind of wondering how the season pass will be worth $50. I think it is questionable whether it will be worth $25 based on what is announced. The whole point of a season pass (in my opinion) is that you get a (generally small) discount compared to if you had bought each dlc individually. Thus i’d expect what is offered to be worth more than $25, or when they raise the price, more than $50.

It just seems like a mind boggling move by bethesda, but maybe as mentioned it is a marketing tactic to make people feel forced to buy it before it goes up to crazy prices.

And yes, i need to stop pre-ordering season passes, but it is tempting when you see them on sale.

It is an interesting situation, where the season pass becomes more expensive than the base game (currently on sale at some common venues for $39.99). “Value” is always tricky for me to figure out when it comes to games, and it doesn’t seem any easier for Bethesda.

Bethesda has always had expensive DLC compared to the base games, or even the GOTY bundles that include all the DLC.

Borderlands 2 did a decent season pass, 4 roughly equal chunks of mini expansions.

Is anyone running Fallout 4 with an core i7 860 processor or something similar? Read a peace that said Fallout 4 is more CPU dependant than a lot of games, and I think my i7 860 is starting to show its age. Thanks

No specifically to that question, but in general, Bethesda’s games are CPU-heavy comparative to their peers.

I run it on an i5, last gen, and have had no problems.

You last gen i5 is probably better than my i7 860. I think I’ll be able to run it adequately, but it’s going to be the bottleneck.

Hard to imagine it being too much of one. It is a console title, and your CPU has 4 physical cores before hyperthreading.

I saw that video, but he’s got his overclocked almost 50% faster than my stock clock speed.

Any difficulty recommendations? I like to at least have somewhat of a challenge, but don’t want each battle to last forever.

Also, any mouse + KB vs controller recommendations? Since there will presumably be a lot of shooting I’m guessing I’ll go mouse + kb, but I am playing more and more games with a controller as it tends to be easier to remember what to press and less awkward. Aiming is usually just an issue with the right stick.

I would highly recommend going with mouse and keyboard because yes, there will be a lot of shooting. I don’t find VATS particularly useful in this one aside from a sort of “enemy ping” system. I mean, it’s not like I don’t ever go into it but (perhaps because of my build) I can only get off a couple shots in VATS mode and then it takes quite some time to refresh.
