No, Bethesda has said that they will include $60 of “value” in the season pass. Automatron is $10, Workshop is $5, Far Harbor is $25, total of $40. So that leaves $20 of “value” to be provided, FWIW.

That’s an incredibly generic comment :)

“Generic”? That’s a favorite but meaningless comment. What exactly do you mean by “generic”?

I thought it looked cool. Definitely, a mystery, faction conflicts, new environments, new creatures, new weapons, armors. Looks pretty interesting to me.

<Mode of transport> arriving at a place as a voice pleads at you to bring a missing person home.

Cuts of meaningless context devoid panning shots while a pretentious voice spouts drivel about paying due, and ‘our fight’.

More panning scenic shots devoid of meaning or context.

More pretentious voice overs.

‘The fog can do a number on you, get you all turned around’ yes, that’s what fog generally does.

Yada yada yada.

It’s trying to promote drama and conflict and not doing a particularly good job. Like a child pretending to be an adult by mimicking what it sees adults doing.

If you didn’t know it was a Fallout 4 trailer by name, or didn’t recognise the visuals, it could be a trailer for anything really - hence generic.

And how is that “generic” exactly?

Cuts of meaningless context

Looked pretty meaningful to me. It showed me that there were new locations/environments, a factional conflict that needs resolving, and a mystery that needs solving. Any more would possibly give the story away.

You clearly saw a faction of locals, plus the Children of the Atom. That’s pretty meaningful in setting the stage for the story without giving it away.

Yeah, if you threw out Nick Valentine, the radiated creatures, the vault suited “Sole Survivor”, etc, it could be anything. Just like if you took out Han Solo, the Millennium Falcon, Storm troopers in armor, a Star Wars commercial could be anything. Sure if you take out any everything unique, you can say anything is generic. That certainly makes sense in an absurd sort of way! :)

I had a similar weak reaction to the trailer. It had no underlying theme or storyline, and didn’t explain what the expansion was actually about.

A lot of that fits in with the Bethesda design philosophy of “give the player a bunch more open-world sandbox shit to do”. That just doesn’t make for a great trailer.

Tough crowd. I liked it.

“We’ve paid our dues in blood and bullets. This is our fight.”

Am I some kind of snob or storm-cloud for not being able to stomach this stuff in movies/games?

Pretty much.

I thought the trailer looked pretty good personally. It was ultra cliche, and kind of made me think of witcher, but if it works, it works.

I still doubt it will be worth $40-50 though.

Strawman. Nowhere has it been said that it is worth $40 -$50. Bethesda has said $25. Not sure where you are getting your numbers from.

I’m pretty sure he’s talking about the total price of the Season Pass.

Best part of fallout4 so far is the joke “Horse Armor” addon.

Ah, perhaps so, but “it” is a little vague when his previous sentence is about the DLC :)

That said, I don’t think the DLC are worth $50 either, even though there is still more to come after Far Harbor. But anyone buying at $50 is making that decision for themselves knowing most of what they are getting since this was all announced before the price increase. Most/many people got the Season Pass for less than $30 like myself, and I’m happy at what I’ve seen so far.

looks at his playtime—if I put a dollar per hour to Fallout…I think most of us OWE them money. Even at a dollar an hour, it’s a steal.

Yeah agree, Fallout 4 has more than paid for itself in my time and enjoyment. I’m really looking forward to my new run. Going to go pistols and try to focus on high vats usage and crits. I did a lot of stealth my first time through so I’ll try to avoid that this time around too. And of course I’ll have to pick a different faction this time. My first guy was military all the way through so if felt right to go BoS, this new character will be more of a rebel so we’ll have to see what feels like it fits. Can’t wait to try out some of the other companions this time around too.

Protip for a luck build - you can change the rifle that you get from Dance for completion of the first quest into a pistol. I think it has 25% more crit damage or something like that. All that’s needed is changing the stock.

Yep, energy weapons are like that, plasmas and lasers can go either way. And not only does the Danse gun have higher damage criticals but the critical meter fills 15% faster. Very good gun if you are using a VATS play style.

Great tip, thanks guys!

After seeing Tom’s Stellaris review – ouch – I thought I’d try and bring this thread around and wonder: What would Tom’s review of Fallout 4 be if they had the new(ish) survival mode on? Btw the “Far Harbor” expansion is due -uh --I think tomorrow. I can’t recall his “stars” for fallout 4 – I think it was 2. Ill look in a sec.

No fast travel, no bullet sponge, and a lot of dying.

Still a fantastic game in the open-world Bethesda mode. Survival mode is where a game like this should start.

Far Harbor should launch (On PC anyway) in something like 20 minutes. Survival does look pretty cool but it was my understanding that it (Currently?) doesn’t work with mods, and I’m going to wait to play it in earnest whenever I can get a sleeping bag mod or similar so I can save marginally more reliably.
