Nope it works with mods from Nexus using their mod manager. It doesn’t give you achievements if you are using mods. But there’s a mod to mod that. Which is funny that I would know all that since I just started a final play through with NO mods. Just cause I was starting to think “Hey --I 'm making this easier” with my mod downloads. Though I did LOOK good.

But To put it more simply yes you can mod survival mode – Modding fallout 4 is an art form it seems – any way they can do it they do.

I’ve been playing survival mode for about a month now and its tough. It is definitely Dark Souls tough --with more random ways to die. Ill put my top ten survival mode tips up soon. As a bit of foreshadowing: The “chemist” perk and 3 points in “stealthy” is essential.

Cool, thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, the ability to not set off unseen traps and mines is a godsend, and almost a requirement if you don’t like unnecessary death.

Great points, look forward to seeing the rest of your tips Kristi. Have to start thinking about my starting stat allocation! Can’t wait to jump back in tonight.

Fallout 4 Survival Tip #1: (Not necessarily in order of importance):

Learn to love the “chemist” perk. It requires a 7 intelligence, so its a PAIN to get early --but I do --for TWO reasons especially:

(1) You need it to make “antibiotics.” You can buy antibiotics or go to a doctor if diseased, but especially early in the game, you could get a huge infection in you big toe that could really cause you problems with a herd --or whatever–of mole rats. Gather “glowing fungus” everywhere.

(2) Almost as important you need it to make “refreshing beverages”. See, in survival mode, FOOD is normally a better choice than a stimpack to heal – stimpacks are more used like doctor bags (fixing a limb) in F:NV. Stimpacks heal SLOW. When some super mutant master is nailing you with a minigun, you need fast relief: That’s where the refreshing beverage comes in. “Blood packs” are the main tough ingredient. This “juice” (?) heals FAST. Plus heals some rads to boot.

Just one point of chemist is really needed for those two great recipes. I can’t see playing survival without either.

Preview: Tip #2 will probably be about cooking …

I’ve put a few hours into Far Harbor so far and like what I’m seeing. Mostly I’ve been roaming around. Not that its much of a challenge for my high level character, but I didn’t expect it would be. For a little fun I didn’t take any power armor. I did find a

and it seems to have an interesting quest attached, albeit in the vein of a previous Fallout series DLC.

My only complaints are 1) I don’t have any place to store anything, which seems like an oversight since you arrive on a boat that is sitting at the dock and 2) I just got a notification that one of my settlements back in Boston is under attack. Not like I’m going to travel back to defend it. That should be suspended while your away, IMHO.

Does the game have any form of transport besides Fast Travel? I’m thinking of starting a new playthrough on Survival but I don’t really want to walk everywhere. Something like carriages in Skyrim would be great.

I didn’t join Brotherhood of steel, but I’ve heard that if you do, they have a method of fast travel. Tom mentioned that in his review too, about how it was pointless since he could fast travel since the beginning of the game so it wasn’t the big deal the story made it out to be. Well now, in Survival mode it will be a big deal.

If you get in good standing with the Brotherhood of Steel, you get signal flares that allow you to call in a vertibird that will assault the area if there are hostiles present, and transport you to any fast-travel location on the map that you’ve unlocked.

Are mods compatible with Survival mode? I’d like to give it a try at some point, but moddability is one of my favorite parts of Bethesda games.

Yes, but careful, no achievements if you care about that. Though there is a mod that fixes that too! :)

After the game, I think all of the factions other than the Institute have a vertibird for you to use.

Ah, thanks!

I’ve never cared one bit for achievements in a computer game, so it’s all good :)

Uh, you can secure settlements so you do have workbenches to store stuff. In fact an early NPC will provide a workbench for you at his place.

Thanks, totally forgot about the vertibirds.

Next question goes to Kristi since she seems to be the only one with Survival experience for now - are auto weapons any more viable on Survival with global modifiers to damage taken? Also, is it possible to craft ammo now (without installing mods)?

I used auto weapons all the time up to level 25 on normal and didn’t have any problems. Survival makes them even more deadly so that wouldn’t seem to be a problem. Survival mode changed only things related to survival - you still can’t craft ammo. But seriously, one level in the ammo scrounger perk makes crafting ammo unnecessary.

Anyone else having trouble getting Far Harbor to actually Fing install on steam? I have checked and unchecked the box a dozen times and it’s not kicking it over into download mode…

Kadath have you tried the usual trick of quitting Steam (the app and the systray… or just reboot) and re-launching it? Also, verify in Settings -> Downloads that you haven’t set a download schedule.

Yeah not sure what fixed it but something did

Solved and will play tamale, thanks.

I think Survival increases damage across the board? That’s usually done by lowering the DT which really benefits fast rate of fire weapons. And the reason I asked about ammo crafting is because I read that the ammo for Far Harbor guns apparently doesn’t drop on the mainland. I guess that would make the scrounger perk useless if that’s the case.
