I just wanted to add that I really enjoy reading about all of your experiences, especially those of you in survival mode. I’ve been paying attention silently. So thank you all for keeping the flame alive! :)
I started my own survival run a while back but got sidetracked by a few other things. Looking forward to trying it out. I enjoyed F4 for what it was when it came out, but the survival rules seem a lot of fun.
Ok. I reloaded Fog Island on survival and decided to get tough and kill! I may screenshot my 102 level survival mod character cause --well, she looks pretty good (especially for have died so much --she should be a ghoul).
Fog Island is actually pretty good. The Fog eats at your framerate a bit – an I still get a vats bug occasionally --but Longfellow and I have destroyed a LOT of mutant wildlife. A small tip: I was thinking “man this is DARK!” and so I got the wolf ribs food factory started and that has helped a LOT.
Small spoiler alert.
I have no sympathy whatsoever for the lunatics that are the Children of Atom – I haven’t been to their base yet – but my intention is go and do a bloody mary on 'em. This is the same character that got sick of the “mila” quests from the railroad and killed all of them with the Deliverer. Though … she changed her mind and now feels bad about that and is supporting renegade synth rights on Fog Island.
LOTS of very dangerous wildlife on Fog Island -beware. I ran into a next on anglers and – well they were still picking up my pieces at each of the lighthouses around the island. Wolves, bears, anglers, gulpers and – other things.
Good luck there! I’ve built some bases, and have been cleaning it out – decided to just be determined and careful!
ps --I sneak a LOT there. Sneak and blunder into 3 charred ghouls --etc – I think some of the mutant monsters have the bloody mess perk …

PC hard drive failed, waiting on arrival of new super PC. Plan to start a heavily modded survival mode run as soon as it gets here. Will post my experiences here similar to Kristi.
All right, I’m caving, I’ll do Far Harbor next.
For the past few play sessions I’ve been obsessed about gathering junk from anywhere I can find it as I wander southeast. I just found something unexpected near University Point: a second entrance to Vault 88 that’s unmarked on the map even after finding and entering it.
I started a new game of Fallout IV at survival level. I got to Concord and got my butt whipped. Anybody else found survival level too difficult?. I think I’ll stick to hard or very hard.

On survival, I don’t tackle Concord until I’ve found some kind of sniper rifle. I kill everything, including the Bigbad, from the comfort of the roof, then pop on the power armor after the fight to jump down.

Persevere, it’s worth it. If it’s the raiders that did you in, just take it slow, grenades and molotovs when you get a couple close together. As for the big bad, just cheese him. There are a couple building you can get in on that street that he can’t get in, just go in there and shoot until dead.

Fallout 4 got a 1.7 beta update today. Most important feature - Jun and Marcy are no longer immortal after arriving in Sanctuary. Best new feature, almost as good as a new dlc.
Stroll == I find Fallout 4 survival mode too difficult everyday. Grif --why? Do you kill them? They are annoying for sure…

Back playing after off for a few months. Lots of new DLC and moved from a 680 to a 980TI. All of my stuttering is gone and it looks gorgeous, and I say that as someone who was initially disappointed in how it looked in the launch vids.
Playing as sneak and melee the game is almost too easy. I one hit kill everything and the slow mo animations are so rampant as to be annoying. I’ve been using the steam hammer for 10+ levels and I have no expectation of replacing it. Any recommendations on melee weaps to look for?

You can cancel VATS early. Very useful if you go into a slowmo versus a lone enemy.
As for weapons - I went the assassin route so I started with a switchblade (kept baton on hand, shock/stun was very handy in a few situations), then I think I pretty much went straight for the Pickman’s blade which I’ve been using since. Kremvh’s Tooth is good if you can get it early but I think the inherent bleed from Pickman’s edges it out in the end, especially versus high level and/or heavily armored targets.
I was running on some trappers on my 107 level hotfire gatling auto killer in fog harbor – loaded with good armour (though maybe too stylish) – ONE missile hit near me (ms azalea). Dead. That island is especially dangerous on survival.
Someone told me that Valentine provides the most interesting companion dialog in Far Harbor; is that true?
Considering switching to him before embarking, but I’m not enthusiastic about the fact that I can’t override his gear choices.

Hmm, you and I must be talking about different things. I was talking about the raiders and the surprise in Concord, both of which are worse than annoying.

How? Every other search I look at says I need to add a mod to turn this off. Looks like adding a mod is an absolute PITA. Is it safe to add the nexus mod manager?

I think you just press the same key again. Been a while since I’ve played.

Will give it a shot after eq raids tonight thanks.
Griff – I meant darcy and Jun – why are their deaths so good?
Kadath Bat is right – I use “tab” to get out of vats.
Of all things I have been running a quest mod on my modded survival “Xander’s something or other”
It is pretty good. Why though is it always a trend that modders adding new areas add a LOT more stuff? I mean loot. Its too much. Heck as Bat has said and I’ve agreed even on survival you slowly but surely get too much.

Thanks, I use a gamepad to play, I assume its the same bumper that starts VATS, will try it.

Seriously? :). Marcy is almost universally considered the most annoying npc in the game except maybe Preston Garvey. She is always complaining in a backhanded passive aggressive manner. I was so disappointed when I got supply lines and found I couldn’t make her a provisioner just so I wouldn’t have to hear her anymore. And Jun is always apologizing for her, as if she’s the only person In the wasteland who’s had a rough life. They are both soooo annoying.
