Hah, had a crazy Fallout moment yesterday when I did something I never knew you could do before. Was fighting some raiders along slight rise, and thought I had gotten all of them. But as I came over the rise, I saw silhouette that chilled my heart. A raider was looking right at me with a missile launcher on his shoulder pointed right at me. In the split second before I thought I was going to die, I aimed my explosve SMG, Spray and Pray and opened fire. All of sudden (this all took place in just microseconds), the raider exploded. I had somehow hit the missile either before or just as it left the launcher! I had no idea you could do this! Crazy!

Apparently grenades are also shootable too.
Oh yes – you can blow there stuff up – you can target grenades too coming at you. I did finally finish my run through FO 4 though I haven’t described it here (spoilers). I have to agree with almost everyone the story is a bit lacking but the world and mechanics are pretty crazy good --especially on survival mode.
Aim for that right arm when those big suicide mutant come at you --there are still some guilty pleasures to be had there.
At launch I rented Fallout 4, and played it for about a week, and really liked what I saw. I’ve been following the thread since. My objective was to not buy the game until a GOTY edition came out with all the DLC included, because with previous games, the DLC was totally worth it. The addition of the new Survival mode has only made me want to get it more.
However, this time, after reading people’s impressions, I’m confused on whether or not the DLC in Fallout 4 is worth getting or not. If I see a good bargain price for plain vanilla Fallout 4, maybe I should just get that and ignore the DLC? Or is it worth it to wait for a good price on a GOTY edition (which always happens eventually)?
Well – I think Fog island was good – but the rest of the DLC --not so good. GOTY edition is always the best idea plus a seasonal sale. (I know Fog Island is something else specifically – it was the only large expac for FO4)
Was Nuka-World not large?
I’ve got it loaded now – I am pretty sure that only Fog Island was a “large” expansion (like Dragonborn for skyrim). Ill get in there and comment asap. I am sure others here went into it, however.
Nuka-World is quite large in terms of terrain, but outside of the theme park areas, there isn’t much. Some scrub, empty farms, and an underwhelming village on the outskirts of the park. Do be sure to check out the Grandchester Mansion in the SW of the map.
I am ~15 hours and … 75%? into Far Harbor. It’s fun. I’m not convinced that it’s better than the core game, though. It has, I don’t know, 20-25 locations. There is a lot more empty area, though. And it reminded me a bit of Skyrim, but not in a good way, with a large mountain range going down the middle of the eastern half. Which means you can’t go through it, you have go to around it. Miles around it. A problem rarely found in the Commonwealth.
It’s always always dark, murky, and foggy. Even in the middle of the day. Which is what they intended, but it does not make it more fun. I tired of it quickly.
I will finish it, but in general I’m looking forward to returning to the Commonwealth and continuing my game there.
Also.
Bethesda updated FO4 to 1.8 tonight, which broke F4SE. Once again, Bethesda throws a middle finger to the very community that makes their games relevant years after their release.
I won’t be playing FO4 tonight.

So are mods now being done through bethesda’s portal or are people still mostly using nexus mods? I know in Skyrim SE edition there was a mods menu when then asked me to log into bethesdas site. I just wonder what is so special about their mod site opposed to nexus.
On PC, I believe the favored mod location is still Nexus. The interface and search on Bethesda’s portal are terrible. Plus, Bethesda’s portal doesn’t have as many mods as Nexus.
The main thing is that Bethesda’s service is accessible on the console version, I think

I don’t entirely understand that line of thought, should they not continue to fix the various bugs that pop up?
It’s not like the F4SE has a dead development team/person which forces you to keep old versions of the game, it takes a few days and they release a new version.

No reason to expect developers to collaborate with third-party program authors to ensure compatibility with each update. As long as they don’t deliberately make a change to break it, we have nothing to complain about.

I’m late coming back to Fallout 4 after shelving it due to some bugs I had at launch. Although I’m well in at this point (level 34,) I generally know a bit about the factions and the main story as well. I have a question regarding the main quest and if the factions supersede that as I progress.
Essentially I’m running quests for the Minutemen and Railroad while ignoring the main quest at the point of meeting Nick Valentine in Diamond City. I can tell the faction quests seem to be getting to major plot change points. Should I hold off and dive into the main quest at this point? Do the factions interrupt the main quest or force progression of it?
At a certain point in each faction quest, you’ll essentially be making choices in the main quest. They flow right into the main storyline.

Crap. That’s what I thought. Sounds like I need to go meet up with Nick Valentine then. This happens to me in every Bethesda game. I end up so caught up in the open world, “do whatever I want,” approach that I just keep putting off the main quest to the point it becomes an issue.
Thanks for the tip, man.
At the time I wrote this I was much closer to 50%. And there are ~55 locations in Far Harbor. It will easily take you 30 hours to complete if you do it all, maybe 40. Once I started doing the main questline my opinion of it improved, but not my much. The dreary, ever-present radioactive fog is a downer.
Nuka-world is a much better expansion, though, I wish they had made more of the rides functional after you restored power to the park.

I just finished Vault 88, aka the very short Vault-Tec Workshop expansion. The beginning, area as well as the cave exploring, had me switch to a higher radiation proof gear setup.
Maybe I should hop over to Far Harbor? Any specific level requirement or suggestion for starting that area?
