A lot of them do, but there’s really no excuse not to have the DLC. They’ve been on sale any number of times, you can get them fairly cheap if you watch for sales.

Hey people, just use Wabbajack. It automates all of this mod stuff. There are four options for FO4 at the moment. This is the most vanilla with “only” 360 mods (all working perfectly), check out the others lists if you want more mods or more hardcore.

Wabbajack changed my life for the better by saving me dozens of hours trying to get mods to work.
Yeah, I was gonna say, there are like four Wabbajack mod lists for FO4, all of which are tested to work together and a 95% automated install. You do run the risk of hitting stuff you don’t actually want being packaged but it’s a good starting point.

I love love love truly open world games that give me a living world to explore and let me do what I want. It’s why Bethesda is up high on my favorite developer list and why they may be the only developer that could compel me to put an XBox next to my PS5 when they come out with their XBox exclusive open world games.
That said, I never finished F4 purely because of the settlements. I was playing on the PS4, FWIW. For someone who loves the freedom of the open world, having to baby sit the settlements was pure drudgery for me.
So - on the PS5 - are there mods on the console that would let me basically ignore the settlements?

During my original playthrough on ps4, I basically just ignored any settlement alerts. Thereafter, I just left Preston to rot in Concord and nipped the entire issue in the bud.

I jumped back in but then I threw in New Vegas to check something out. I definitely like the art style of NV and F3 over F4. The people, the world (at least the buildings)…it all looks so shiny and plastic-y. Faces look like wax dummies.

Uh, you do know that settlements are totally optional, right? You can rescue Garvey’s crowd and ignore them afterwards, or just ignore them once you go into Concord and never enter the Museum of Freedom. I’ve done a couple of play throughs where I ignored them after rescuing them.

Actually, I did not. I just knew that I was constantly getting notices that this settlement needed help, this settlement needs help, etc.

I tried not doing it but the need for the transmitter thing got me doing it. I tried building the transmitter outside a settlement, where a wiki told me I could do it, but it wouldn’t work there.

I’m pretty sure you won’t get those notices if you don’t engage with Garvey. If you visit individual settlements, they may still ask you for help but you can ignore if you don’t want to help.

You can build the transmitter via either the MInutemen, the Bos, or the Railroad. You don’t have to do it through the Minutemen (settlements). But you have to do it through one of the factions.

I guess at the time I didn’t know that.

Having just played that part, it’s a little weird. The quest tells you to build the transmitter, with approaching each faction for help listed as optional.
There’s also a mod that pretty much has the settlements run on their own.
Which is really how it should work. The player should be able to set things up and let them take care of themselves from there. The total lack of agency on the part of settlements is really stupid.

I missed it somehow. Probably clicked thru it too fast. I just remember a wiki telling me options and the one without a settlement didn’t work but the one with a settlement working first time.
Wow this looks interesting, anyone played it?
I am also very interested in the Fallout London. I spent some time time on the website and discord, and really didn’t get a feel for if or when this is will be released Anyone know?
I’m really in the mood for Skyrim/Fallout experience. I found survival mode to be too hard. I never finished the game, but I’m really not anxious to repeat the beginning experience.
Not yet, but I just tossed it into my stew of mods.
