Maybe.

I’m not seeing much difference here, certainly nothing worth a FPS hit northwards of 25 frames.

Quality aside, it’s odd to see “real” architecture in a Fallout game rather than the stylised Deco stuff.

Same here, especially in games that reward exploration (e.g., everything Bethesda makes). Happily, I always play light armor sneaky snipers in FO’s, so the power armor oddities won’t hurt.

I actually think that shows a pretty sizable difference (look at the bushes at the bottom of the screen - they get pretty pixelated on the low.

That said, this just feels like such a gimmick feature. I so much wish open world game developers instead pushed viewing distance out much further. ugrids 11 or 13 on this game would make a much bigger difference to me.

Both consoles would collapse on ugrids 11.

If you’re crashing, it’s probably sound drivers. Bethesda has released a beta patch for it. Instructions are as follows:

1.1.30 Beta Update (PC)

*Fixes crash related to xaudio drivers

To get the beta, you need to do the following:

Log into Steam
Right Click on Fallout 4 in your Library
Select Settings
Select Betas
A drop down menu will appear. Select beta – 1.1.30 Beta Update
Select OK.
Wait a few minutes for Fallout 4 should update.
When done, Fallout 4 should appear as Fallout 4 [beta] in your Library

If you decide you don’t want to run the Beta anymore, redo steps 1 – 4. At the drop down, select NONE – Opt out of all beta programs.

Bethesda’s released a beta update to deal with the crashing issues (which, as suspected, are audio related, and are worst on Win10): http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1544136-fallout-4-updates/

Oh wow, thanks guys. I’m still crashing so I’ll check out that beta patch immediately.

Yes, I am running on a sager with 680m. Doesn’t dip below 60fps.

Autodetect gave it Medium with low shadows and most of the fancy stuff off. I don’t notice.

At least there is a silver lining about not getting to play this today. Perhaps by tomorrow, these crash bugs will be fixed.

It’s a Bethesda open world game. I expect some crash issues to persist for weeks. Maybe forever.

Sooo…is anyone having fun as well?

I never really had the issues that most folks always reported to me, in terms of crazy weird glitches and stuff that broke the game. Friends I knew would always have things like NPC’s murdering each other, or dragons landing and killing entire towns… just really weird stuff that wasn’t normal.

But I never ran into that stuff… I think maybe I just naturally play as the developers intend. :P

Yeah, those of you that got it early via VPN or street date release shenanigans, we’d love some initial impressions if you could take the time to type them up! :)

Looks like the beta patch fixed my issues. No crashes for a while now. fingers crossed

I really only played for 10 minutes after the intro experience, explored a gas station, killed a couple molerats and a bloatfly, but it felt like Fallout 3 to me. I ran into the construction/crafting stuff briefly-- the game really doesn’t hold your hand on that stuff at all. So I ignored it. And that’s all I got to play before leaving for work.

Awesome! And good to know!

I’m making some last minute adjustments to my build but I’m a little confused about some perks. For example there’s a perk that increases damage with Big Guns and then you got perks that increase full auto weapons damage (Commando). Do these two stack in case of Minigun or is Commando reserved for auto weapons that previously fell into Small Arms category (fullauto pistols, smgs, ARs)?

Pretty safe to assume they don’t stack.

High Five!
