Fuck, you are making me not want to continue playing. Bethesda sucksssss

I want Obsidian Fallout :(

Base carry weight is high enough that you don’t need much strength. That said, 3 in STR is still highly recommended for the armorer perk. Bear in mind that you find a Perception bobblehead about 30 minutes into the game and a free special point if you visit your old home.

My recommendations for bare essentials would be:

3 str for armorer
4 per for locksmith
5 end for aquaboy
5 int for scrapper and hacker (at 4)

The rest is up to you. If you want to dip into base crafting then charisma is highly useful as it allows you to build trade routes between your outposts and it’s also required to set up shops in your settlements.

Yeah, I don’t get what’s up with all these peaceful little raider communities that just up and try to kill me when they see me. I guess they have raidar. As it were. And why are the rare peaceful types called “settlers”? They’ve been living in the same little corner of the commonwealth for 200 years, haven’t they?

I’d play the mod where someone re-creates Fallout New Vegas in this updated Fallout 4 engine.

Legendary weapons exist. I got one from as a quest reward and another from a “Legendary Black Bloatfly” monster. In both cases, I was able to improve those weapons via crafting. I don’t think it’s optional.

Happily, gun crafting is fairly straightforward. It works well. The UI is awful, but I’m getting used to prompts such as, “EXIT(Enter).”

The strategy guide has a ton of great info on crafting, including a handy chart that breaks down each base weapon and shows if it can be made into another type of weapon, such as a combat shotgun being converted into a “non-automatic pistol” weapon for Gunslingers out there.

Also, I have picked some VERY cool legendary items. The best was picking up this bad-boy literally moments after hitting level 15 and putting a third point in Gunslinger. I’ve since modded the SHIT out of it thanks to a Gun Nut 2 and Science 1 perks.

Fallout 4 definitely has a lot to offer, even if it’s not really the game most of us believe it could have been.

Just an FYI, the Legendary mods on items can be used in other weapons and armor you craft - IF YOU DON’T SCRAP THE ORIGINAL ITEM.

One change I didn’t think I would like when I first heard about it and I still don’t believe I’m sold on it - Critical Hit banking. Yeah, it’s fun to have a critical hit saved up, but it seems like it would have been a lot more interesting if critical hits just occurred randomly based on factors like weapons used, LUCK score, area o hit, that sort of thing. Could be just me. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing I have that bar filled up and ready to use, but I haven’t really been noticing critical hits happening outside of manually doing them. Would have been better as a perk, I think.

Also, I do NOT like that when I skip dialog because I’m reading the subtitles, my guy actually interrupts the NPC - that’s driving me fucking nuts.

I don’t believe you CAN scrap legendary items. I tried a few times just to see, and it wouldn’t let me (I DO have the scavenger perk so I can break down weapons). It’s possible you can’t if you sell them, I suppose. I actually didn’t know I could use legendary properties on other items though, I’ll have to look into that!

+1, the old system was way better.

It’s called “Sea Captain’s Hat”.

The gun variety in this game is fantastic! I just got my first “Combat Rifle” and it feels SO SO good. The oomph, the handling and fire rate and the sweet sweet damage.

I’m of the opinion at the new conversation system is one of the worst I’ve ever experienced in a major RPG.

Honestly, I don’t really care about the conversation system at all… it seems virtually identical to that used in Mass Effect.

Dammit - I’ve tried to tell myself you are just all cranky old men, but after getting to level 6 now, and doing a bit of gaming for about 4-5 hours, I find the game to be utterly boring. It really IS a wasteland, but not in a fun way.

What a complete waste of a good open world game :-/

I guess that now we wait for Elder Scrolls 6…

I just don’t get this.

There’s so much stuff out in the wilderness… A ton of it is totally unmarked, but it is there.

Need to get out there and tell Dogmeat to fetch and see what he brings back.

I just had my first decent quest. It even had a ‘puzzle’ in it! And two ways to finish it!

Oh.

Ohhhh.

So that means I should “move” the mod containing the critical effect, and let the original legendary weapon alone after that?

I’m having fun tweaking my weapons and armor to my liking, and some of the legendary mods offer interesting tradeoffs.

“Time to call in the Minutemen!” fires flare
3 guys show up and get destroyed immediately by a single flamethrower-wielding baddie
“uhm…sorry guys?”

I’m basically playing it as an FPS with RPG elements at this point. Modding armor and guns and finding more armor and guns to mod is what keeps me interested.

I’m also a bit on the disappointed side. 14 hours in and my gunslinger is seeming pretty weak (Even with max gunslinger and gun nut and modding my pistols as much as I can for my level, a single protectron is like a 5 minute grueling fight. My buddy who’s playing a melee character tells me he kills them in one or two hits) enough that I may drop from hard down to normal. The lack of cities is a bit of a bummer, thus far I’ve only seen Diamond City and then maybe 5 “Crappy shack with melon fields and 2 or 3 people standing around” locations. Haven’t really had an opportunity to join slavers or anything yet. Found an area full of raiders which started out marked as friendly which gave me hope, but as soon as they saw me they turned hostile.

The city building stuff is kind of fun but since the PC is the ONLY goddamn person who will bring resources in (Tag for search just marks items for you, you can’t send goddamn “You’re the general but by the way some farmer’s cat went up a tree hows about you go get that down for him” Garvey to get some copper) I went from somewhat excited to mostly ignoring it. Set up some melon fields, some turrets, built a generator and wired some things up, set up supply lines, and haven’t had a single interesting thing happen. No raider attacks, no events, nothing.

Quests like other people have mentioned in here are pretty bad. Strangely they seem worse than Fallout 3. I may be looking at FO3 through rose tinted glasses (God help me) but I seem to remember at least SOME of the quests giving you some options, the nuke in Megaton basically being the one big one. I’ve had a few choices here too, but without spoiling anything they’ve tended to boil down to “Give the NPC the useless widget and get a reward” or “Keep the useless widget for yourself and don’t get a reward because THERE IS NO BECAUSE”.

I dunno. Started out really pumped but I’ve been sliding downhill super fast. Probably the worst part was last night as I was going to bed I was comparing my looting and scavenging experience to Caves of Qud and found I had more fun with Qud.
