In the intro, the guys head started spinning vertically very creepily. I almost thought I was hallucinating for a second. Two hours later, after like five crashes, the game deleted my save.
God fucking damn it, why the fuck did I buy another Obsidian game…
How’s the shooting? I don’t normally pay much attention to the feel of that kind of stuff, but after a hundred hours in Fallout 3 it felt like such a chore. Did they get rid of the tracer round graphics in iron sights mode?
Loving it so far. At 8 hours in I hadn’t even reached Vegas yet, but largely because the countryside quests are actually pretty compelling. Iron sights are fun, good writing, voice acting, terrain is more interesting, hardcore mode is interesting without being crushing (Robinson’s Requiem it is not).
Oh yeah, and my performance was pretty shit regardless of settings, but it’s been suggested that grafting d3d9.dll to the game directory helps, so I’ll try that. Still playable, but it’s the Oblivion engine for crying out loud.
As usual, Obsidian delivers the good along with the bad, but the good is quite good.
Tim: I haven’t noticed tracers in iron sights mode. IMO, a combination of the iron sights and good weapon sounds with some recoil makes the shooting reasonably fun, whereas I rarely fired a gun outside of VATS in FO3 unless I had to.
Oh yeah, the new weapon sounds. I saw the developer diary on that. Just the clip they showed of a medium-distance gun fight sounded an order of magnitude better.

I had no issues like that at all. Steam was running and the game installed fine, then Steam downloaded the update automatically without a restart.
I’m still having no issues on the PC version. I do wish that people who are seeing major issues would at least mention the platform so that observers could get a sense of where those issue are at and aren’t.

You can rebind it in the controls menu. But you can’t ever free up the 2 key for a weapon, at least not that I’ve found so far.

Yeah I’ll move over to the spoiler thread, but it was just a general question of do they exist? Pretty far in on my speed run to get a feel for useful skills and whatnot and will soon start my hardcore playthrough.
Just wanted to know of their existence so when I go through a second time I don’t do anything silly like maxing strength and then finding a strength +1 thingamajoob.

It probably isn’t deleted.
- Look in your documents\my games\falloutnv\savegames directory for files ending in “bak”. Copy those somewhere safe, then rename the extension to what it was originally; I believe it was “sav”.
- Startup steam and disable steamcloud globally in the steam prefs.
- Startup falloutnv, you should be fine.
All of this is from memory, I’m at work so can’t check the exact directories or filenames.
Well that’s good at least: they’re not encrypted like GFWL.

I should mention that I am doing manual saves and not relying on quicksave and autosave until they get that sorted out. I did disable steamcloud globally today. Prior to that I have seen issues with saving, though. For example, when I started up today my continue game loaded up an old autosave rather then the most recent manual save.

When were they encrypted? All GFWL did with saves is create a seperate folder in the existing saves folder and put saves in that. It was easy to copy saves back and forth. When I used a mod to eliminate GFWL from my PC I simply copied the saves back over to the main folder. Nothing was encyrpted. What was hidden by GFWL was where they put the DLC game files, not the saves.
This definitely does not always work, though.

Is there a tweak guide for New Vegas? The ones that has all the graphic settings changes and the AI threading changes and perhaps other performance tuning tips?

So does disabling steamcloud actually disable it or do anything at all? I’m getting conflicting info about this.
The official NeoGAF thread has some performance tweaks littered about, but there are some spoilers in it despite the use of spoiler tags. I haven’t seen any consolidated information yet.
Anyone else change the color of the HUD? I went with blue.
Oops you just reminded me Fallout 3 had GFWL. I removed it before I even started playing. I was talking about the saves for Batman. Hey, so maybe that service wasn’t all bad!

fyi, not sure if it will work for long, but been able to play without crashes for about hour. playing in windowed mode one step below my fullscreen res. 1680 from 1920. maybe work for others?
Here is a compilation of potential fixes.

Has the steamcloud bug been acknowledged by Obsidian, 2k or Valve yet?
