Yeah, there’s no dice roll anymore. On the other hand, you can temporarily increase your relevant skill by ten points (or 20, if you take the perk). Unfortunately, this means hoarding multiple copies of every type of magazine, then scrolling through the “Aid” section of the inventory to use one, which gets hideously overstuffed if you’re collecting a lot of consumable ingredients. There really ought to be sub-categories for magazines, food, and medicine/drugs.
PC Patch is up:
Fixes scripting/quest bugs.
They’re also saying Steam Cloud is fixed:
Spoke with some folks at our office and if you were experiencing issues with Steam Cloud that affected your save games or game settings, these should now be resolved.
To check to see if you’re still having an issue, open the Fallout: New Vegas launcher. Make a change to any setting and quit out of your game. If your setting changes haven’t saved, quit out of Steam and restart the application. This should then solve the issue.
In the event that you’re unable to to load the launcher at all (and it’s crashing), delete all of your .INI files for New Vegas and then relaunch the game.
Props go to stusser for the link in this post:
Steamcloud is NOT fixed, goddamnit. Don’t rely on that being true, back your saves up manually.
Here, series of screenshots:
Oh look, a new patch.
Nothing in my save folder.
Start the game up, aaaand:
There are the Steamcloud saves again.
The game is now available in Australia. Picked up the PS3 version at JB Hifi for $89. The guy on the door reckoned it had been flying out: ‘must be a good game’.

YES YES YES YES YES YES god you can’t even sort by weight which was less important in FO:3 since you only had one real crafting outlet.
One thing I’ve found out is that skill books (the ones that give real stats) actually give you 2 points per, 4 with the perk making that perk even more useful.
I don’t think so. New Vegas has beat me down. I think I’d be more inclined to go back and play the DLC stuff I never tried in Fallout 3.
Whenever Bethesda gets around to a patch for the 360, I’ll be curious to boot up New Vegas and see if it lets me keep playing from where I’m stuck. I can’t deny a sense of investment in the game world and attachment to my characters, so I may go back at some point. But I just don’t have it in me to restart the game.

I’ve been getting 3 per, which must be the product of the lvl 4 perk which I thought only affected how many skill points you get per level. My character intelligence is 7, which may or may not be a factor as well. I was dismayed to find out the hard way that skill magazines can only be in effect one at a time (per skill, I assume), although it makes sense in retrospect.

I would rush out and buy the PC version but steam apparently won’t unlock it and let me play until the 22nd :/

The perk that doubles the skill magazine skill buff also doubles how many points you get for books.

Can’t you go back before you got stuck? Even several hours back must be preferable to a restart.

Quick way to get some basically free xp and a few challenges done at the start: Each piece of ammo counts towards the workbench challenges so you can just convert some energy cells or what have you back and forth to get them done superfast.
Right, but that’s not the one I have. I have the per level skill point boost, which also explicitly grants one additional point per book (for 3, with no other modifiers) now that I read it more carefully.
Adree, I’ve already tried going back to earlier saves. I wrote about it on Fidgit, but the long and the short of it is that the game freezes up any time I try to enter The Strip, even going back to saves from several hours and several quests earlier. I suppose I could go back even further and fight my way back up, but I have no idea where or what caused the issue, and whether it will happen again. Furthermore, I’ve already done that grind with an unrelated lock-up issue that cost me six hours. At this point, I’m done with New Vegas.

Found a stairway in the underground near Raul’s Shack that is literally a hole in the world. You fall through it into grey limbo and then reappear a few yards back down the tunnel.

i’ve been able to play for four hours straight (this game like civ 5 eats away time!) in windowed mode.
sucks that the crashes can get so bad and there’s no reliable fix. obsidian has a gold mine in this game… they really could have used at least a month to iron out crashes and quest bugs. its a beautiful beautiful game and deserved a solid release… not what we have now.
anyway, there’s so much to talk about in this game… so much, moreso than any recent bioware/bethesda/obsidian game… its that good imo.
Not to be patronizing, but did you follow their instructions?
They’re saying Steamcloud is disabled. It’s clearly not. Furthermore, Bethesda hasn’t issued any instructions, the only thing anyone is trying is a series of fan fixes that include running a batch file every time you run the game and re-naming save files. Yes, like I said upthread, I’ve “followed those instructions”.
I quoted Bethesda’s official instructions in my post:
Spoke with some folks at our office and if you were experiencing issues with Steam Cloud that affected your save games or game settings, these should now be resolved.
To check to see if you’re still having an issue, open the Fallout: New Vegas launcher. Make a change to any setting and quit out of your game. If your setting changes haven’t saved, quit out of Steam and restart the application. This should then solve the issue.

Love the game, but I’m getting a little tired of the same 3-4 songs that play. Anyone know how to add our own mp3’s to the soundtrack or radio stations?

Nice, thanks to the new patch my quicksave reverts to yesterdays version everytime I relaunch the game. Disabling the steam cloud or futzing with the .bak files does nothing. At least full saves don’t get erased.
