I’m certain you can place at least face cards on your opponent’s caravans. I’ve done it.

You’re right. It seems I tried that in the beginning, but failed due to still having no clue how to control the game.

I guess you could for example use a king to bump a stack over the 26 points limit.

Yeah, I found the controls to be counterintuitive too. I was thinking of piling the cards up rather than laying them patience-esque.

Any news on whether or not you can lay numerical cards on their caravans?

Oh, and overweighting their caravans with a king is a fantastic tactic; you can also joker their cards if you can’t find a place to use it on yours.

If he’s the only one with sevens in his caravan, you can take out a substantial chunk of his game.

For me it was a tiny hot spot next to the dock that finally started the raft, took quite a bit of hunting to find it.

I didnt like the controls either, for Caravan on the PC. Once I understood them though, the game is just too easy. The AI is completely ineffective since dont seem to use face cards at all. So the game boils down to your deck really. Keep it at 30 cards and load up on 6-10 and Kings and Jacks.

I won a crazy amount of caps.

edit: This game is great, better than FO3 which I liked a lot.

Ya, if you’re going with the Elder, don’t finish up Hardin’s quests or both of them will be stuck.

After fourty hours, killing those stupid Legion LARPers still hasn’t stopped being fun. Will it ever?

And that “Romanes eunt domus” written on the wall in one of their camps almost made me spill my coffee.

I just began this part of the game. Thing is, i can’t know what are the specifc goals of the Elder and Hardin if i don’t make the quests for them, and i want to know to make a good choice. Can anyone put me some mild spoilers over the course of action of the two characters?

It should be pretty clear pretty quickly what Hardin wants and what the Elder wants. I know, I know, you’re asking for spoilers. I’m telling you they’re unnecessary.

Without providing spoilers I will say that the decisions you make can very quickly and unexpectedly eliminate options and put you down a hard path. So save often! ;-)

Well, it seems the last version of the compilation patch includes a fix for that quest

Btw, i like the new role of the BoS in the game. I mean, at least it’s different, in comparison with every other Fallout game, and also it’s somewhat realistic in the context of the backstory and how the world is progressing.

This may be the wrong place to ask this - but is it a bug when the only time I meet these guys they just open fire at me without any other options?

Who are “these”? Where? What armor are you using?

Brother of Steel, and in the hidden valley - And, I’m wearing Spacesuit all the way!! Its my thing in this game :-D

Mmm are you entering in their bunker, and using the intercomm?

I tried, but at all bunkers there was no-one who said anything on the intercoms- just me saying something.

I met them once outside, where they just opened fire at me

I’ll send you a PM so I don’t spoiler up this thread.

Thanks - and yeah, I did think about that… Sorry guys if anyone got spoilered too badly.

Here’s what I did with a similar character (I suppose some spoilers for weapon types?):

  1. Use a conventional rifle for long-range sniping. I used Varmit Rifle -> Cowboy Repeater/Service Rifle -> Hunting Rifle -> Sniper Rifle. Upgrade when possible. I had to take the perk to lower the strength requirement for guns later on because my base strength was 4.

  2. Switch to a pistol for short range (indoors, or after shooting your rifle in vats when they are running up to you). Switch to the .10 mm as soon as possible. Try to get mods for it also. I lusted after the Hunting Pistol but never found enough ammo for it.

  3. Sneaking: when you sneak at normal movement speed, you realize you’re still “running” right? Hit caps lock while sneaking to “walk” sneak. This helps you get closer without being detected. However, it’s easier to sneak if the mob is not looking at you. If they look at you, stop moving - sometimes they will go about their business and turn away, and if so, sneak again.

  4. I picked the perk that adds the equivalent of +5 luck to headshots, Bloody Mess. I did not get rapid reload on my first guy but I am planning on getting a pistol-oriented guy who will get that.

  5. When shooting from stealth, before getting the headshot perk, I usually targeted whatever body part had the highest hit chance. Just avoid the torso.

  6. Once you get a companion, things do get easier. If worst comes to worst, you can use them to draw fire, and/or the enemies’ attention, and you can do stealth sniping, which gets you the bonuses.

Hope that rambling helped.

Regarding the BOS shooting at you on sight: I had that happen to me when I traveled to that area at night and saw a patrol in the valley. I just reloaded, went back, didn’t see a patrol, found their area, and everything worked out.

Despite having the Cowboy Repeater, Service Rifle, and Hunting Rifle in my armory, I am loving the upgrade Varmint Rifle. I’ve got a silencer and a night scope on that thing, and it’s just great. Well, except against excessively-armored targets.
