The patch supposedly fixed an issue with the reload action of the cowboy repeater. Well, what it did for me was break my named .357 - Lucky - now after I reload, the game is no longer responsive to any key commands except movement and crouch. I can’t bring up the PipBoy, can’t go into Vats, can’t interact with anything. The only thing I’ve found that “fixes” it is to try to shoot off a round. However sometimes you don’t get stuck, and so when you try to shoot off a round you actually do shoot it off… sort of spoiling the whole “sneak up on them” thing.
That reloadingbug is an issue I had before the patch too. It actually happened to me when I was reloading any weapon that was manually loaded round for round, like the repeater or any revolver, while moving in any way.

“We’re already have folks looking into the issues reported with with enemies being unkillable (unless they’re dismembered). We’re working on a fix to release asap!”
still, hilarious. Almost makes me glad I am at work and thus cannot play.
Is this bug PC-only? I didn’t play last night so I don’t know if the 360 version even got the patch.
yeah PC only. They cannot release patches so quickly on consoles due to cert process.
btw the “unkillable bugs” bug has been fixed.
Yes, they got a hotfix out for the patch within a couple of hours. It was quite amusing while it was in effect. I genuinely didn’t know whether the zombie bloatflies were part of some quest and went to look them up on the Fallout wiki.
From reading the tech support boards, it appears that first patch marked certain enemies as “essential” which basically means if you try to kill them, they just go unconscious, then pop back up.
Given the randomness of it, I’m guessing someone forgot to initialize and/or set that variable when creating whatever data structure they use to refer to the critter, so sometimes the random junk in the space that was allocated was a 1 and sometimes the random junk was a 0.
The bug with reloading the .357 is still going strong, based on my playing a bit today…
Probably asked a few times before, but…
I just picked up the CE. I have not yet installed it, but it has a big Games for Windows logo on the top. Yet Bethesda says the patches are release via Steam? Does a GfW game register itself with Steam for patches?

Games for Windows is different than Games for Windows Live. Games for Windows is merely a branding/certification strategy.
And because they are using Steamworks, the game does not have the Live component.
Ah, I had just assumed it was GFWL since that’s what Fallout 3 used.
Great!

Yep, I have the exact same problem, seems to impact all the lever action rifles, revolvers. Kind of sucks because it makes the game unplayable for me.
Make sure to report it wherever these the unkillable guys was reported so we can get a quick fix I guess.
Bad patches are sad making.

The funniest part is that repeaters and revolvers are completely borked now and always have the bug where you lose the ability to do anything. Before it only happened if you moved while crouched or something, now its all the time.
I (still?) have the Cowboy Repeater + crouch bug… but don’t remember having it before this patch.
Hm.
DX10 seems to work now, though. And looks better than DX9. That said, being indoors makes my input feel kind of like it has some kind of acceleration to it, like my character takes one extra step after I release the key, or something. It only feels that way indoors, oddly. FRAPS is reporting a solid 60FPS, though, so maybe it’s in my head.

So I installed todays “performance fixing” patch, and now my microstutters are back with a vengence… and I can’t use the old hacked .exe to remove them.
Anyone know how to get rid of microstutters in the latest patch?

Ugh. I was afraid that might happen (though I haven’t checked myself.) Did you remove the hacked .dll file to see if that is causing an issue?
So I guess I’ll better wait another couple of months before trying to play New Vegas…

I wasn’t using the hacked .dll. I was using the 64 bit fix
Eh, I have 97 hours in it and while there have been a few bugs and stuff, it sure hasn’t affected my enjoyment of it. Now, YMMV, and some folks certainly have had a lot more trouble with it than I have had. But I’m really, really glad I got it and I’m still finding stuff that is new. Good stuff, even, not just new bugs!
