Zombie mod!

I’m in Primm about to decide on who should be the new SHeriff and I’d like to pickup quite a few items. But everything is “Red” and when I grab something or it says I’m affecting Karma… but I can’t figure out who’s karma I’m affecting? The only two groups on my karma list are GoodSprings and Powder bandits. Is my game messed up? Can I loot Primm without consequence? Should Primm already be on my Karma list?

Karma is separate from reputation. Karma is global. Reputation is the fame/infamy gained by the different factions you meet. If you haven’t completed any quests (or done anything else significant) towards a faction, you will not gain any fame or infamy. Straight karma doesn’t seem to affect the game unless a certain faction witnesses you doing something (which in turn affects your reputation with the faction). And stealing a few things here or there doesn’t seem to hit karma that hard. I don’t steal very much, but it hasn’t stopped me when no one is around, and my karma is still very good.

Primm is not a faction I don’t think, maybe if you don’t help NCR take it over it is… not sure. I’d have to doublecheck.

Either way, the karma hit for stealing a few items is trivial to nonexistent. As long as you don’t go crazy with it, stealing a few things here and there won’t hurt you.

I steal anything of value that’s not nailed down and am still rocking positive Karma. Of course, I kill Powder Gangers, (two of their grunts made a BIG mistake trying to jump me on the road early in the game, and the faction and I have just been on bad terms since), an act that increases your Karma.

Oh crap - I HAVE been going crazy with it. I thought it affected Reputation. So I got my reputation perfect with GoodSpring then stole every thing that wasn’t nailed down (not in front of anyone)… happy to see my rep wasn’t being hurt. So how do I see my current Karma level?

What can having the highest and lowest Karma levels do?

----edit-----just found it

I’m at “Good Dignitary”.

What can having the highest and lowest Karma levels do?

Take the Cannibal perk and find out :)

Another dumb question. How is Ed-E healing himself, or coming back to life after being unconscious?

Stimpacks

All your party members will get back up after being unconscious unless you are playing in hardcore mode.

Your karma is represented by the title you see when you look at a save game - it’ll say something like “Level 3 Protector JimBob” where Protector is your Karmic title.

I steal a fair bit (tends to happen less and less as the game goes on, because I don’t need stuff), and my karma is always overwhelmingly positive - killing guys like Powder Gangers or Fiends or undead gives you big karma boosts.

Ok, here’s a fix that’s not too bad.

Whenever it happens, left click once as if firing a shot. That will free everything up again. Seems to work consistently for me and others.

Another set of questions from a Fallout newbie:

  • What does low radiation do to you? I can’t see it affecting me.

  • The storekeeper at the beginning (GoodSpring) talks about not using surplus bullets. What is he talking about? Am I supposed to take all the bullets I find, break them down and rebuild them?

  • Two different kinds of Merc armor/outfit… one has a simley face Fallout Boy, and the other is a frowney faced one. What does that mean? I have 30 outfits and am afraid to sell them off because I don’t understand the variants and if they affect your disguise (ex. 4 kinds of PowderGang outfits).

I’m starting to think I should play on Hardcore mode. It makes no sense to me, just sleeping for a couple hours and all my limbs magically grow back.

Radiation doesnt really do much I think apart from some stat loss at higher levels.

The store keeper is talking about a different kind of ammo you can buy thats alot cheaper, its marked box or bulk. You dont need to rebuild all your ammo.

I have no idea what your talking about regarding the smiley faces. Just look at the DT and the bonuses each armour gives then decide what you want. You should probably look at repairing whatever you want to keep with all the spares first before you go selling anything off too. Disguises just make you friendly to that faction regardless of your reputation with them, also makes you hostile to factions at war with your disguise.

Surplus bullets are bought in big ammo crates cheaply. They are less powerful than the regular kind.

This little video is what I meant by smiley armor vs. frowny armor (see Fallout Boy’s expression). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hUEmXmao6Q

I’m not totally sure it has any meaning, except that he’s truing to look like a badass wearing the troublemaker outfit.

I could be wrong, but I haven’t seen any difference in using different armors like that.

Well, it would have been pretty boring the the concept artist to draw the same face to every Fallout Boy drawing.

Jpinard. You think too much. :) I’m pretty sure it’s just the artist not wanting to draw the same face too.

As someone who thought vanilla FO3 was pretty crappy, is New Vegas worth getting? Maybe when it’s on sale?
