So I went in the front door, thinking what the hell, I’ll see what happens.

Happened to me on my first playthrough, but they spazzed out on me the second. I think you can go to the prison and not have to fight so long as your rep isn’t bottomed out (vilified?) with the Powder Gangers. Merely hated still gets you in the door.

Yeah the powder gangers were pretty forgiving to me. I expected a massive shootout and they told me to behave and let me in without much fuss.

Looking for a little help. I am level 11 now, have done some of the main quest, picked up 1 person and am on the outskirts of New Vegas. I recentl did Helios One quest but right now have no quests at all outside the main one. I have done some wandering but can’t seem to find anything else to do.

Any hints or tips or places to go find that will help me.

Well, you’re on the outskirts of New Vegas - run down, yes? This is Freeside. Freeside is run by a particularly enigmatic character who you’ll be able to find with minimal exploration. He’ll shake up the story with a nice quest, and should set you on the road to get into The Strip proper.

Did you stop by Primm and talk to the residents there? That (could) lead to Mojave Outpost. Both of those locations have a few quests associated with them, depending on how things pan out.

NCR Camp McCarren has a ton of quests, as does Camp Forlorn Hope (what inspiring military leader would call his base “Forlorn Hope”, btw?)

After Helios One, I headed up to Boulder City, then on to the 188, REPCONN HQ and Camp McCarran. REPCONN can give you a sketchy introduction to another faction, and there’s a lot going on both in and around Camp McCarran. If you met Cass at Camp Mojave she clues you in on the Crimson Caravan, who also have a number of jobs round there.

You can also strike out east from Helios for Camp Forlorn Hope and Nelson. If you gave Camp Searchlight a miss, as I did when I initially passed through the area, you might consider going back down there now.

There’s no shortage of stuff to do. I was level 18 before I even got to Freeside, and I’ve still hardly got into Vegas itself at level 24.

I did Goodsprings->Primm->Nipton->Novac->Rocket Plant->Helios One->Boulder City->detour to Camp Hope->and from there i visited all the NCR camps, including Camp Golf.
When i finished the Camp missions, i went finally to New Vegas. There are two Freeside areas, one Westside, one North Vegas, and the sewers, apart of the two zones of the Strip. And nearby, Camp McCarran, the HQ from Gunrunners, and the HQ from the Caravan Company.

On top of Naeblis’ offerings, I would suggest visiting the Medical Center close to the Crimson Caravan HQ.

One thing that surprised me is that there weren’t many quests at Camp Golf. I expected something similar to Forlorn Hope…

First DLC announced

That sounds…less awesome than I had hoped.

How about a DLC that fixes the NCR quest that points me to nowhere and prevents me from finishing the game you fucking assholes?

Sorry, kind of bitter right now.

This first DLC is the exclusive one for 360, so if one of the DLCs has to be “less than awesome”, it better be this one. :P

Ah…well, yeah, in that case, whatever. :)

On a side note, I am getting pretty fucking sick of having to click on a combo box, scroll to the bottom, and click an item to get into certain web sites. What the FUCK are those ridiculous age gates accomplishing?

Yeah, I was trying to find a link w/o an age gate too. The Kotaku blurb seems passable, but doesn’t contain the press release

I’m about 5 hours in. I have not read the thread for fear of spoilers, but I would appreciate it if someone could answer some questions…

What does the tick mark on the condition bar on the main UI represent?

What use is the Repair skill? Modding? With a default repair skill I can take a bunch of guns and repair them to 100%.

When looking at certain weapons in the PIPboy, there’s an odd icon on the right, above the dps. It may look like a bullet, or something else. It has a number over the icon, like 0, 25, or 50. It’s even in the screenshot in the manual. But the manual does not say what it does.

I kind of understand why they did it, but losing karma for stealing from an evil gang that you’ve decided ally against, like the Powder Gangers, is lame.

  1. I think the tick mark indicates the point where below it, the perfomance of the weapon is worse.

  2. Repair skill makes repairing weapons more efficient (% raised with each weapon used up). It’s also used in some quests.

  3. The icon indicates the weapon type (guns, energy, melee, unarmed, explosive) and the amount of skill needed to use the weapons without penalties.

  4. Yeah, typical F3 karma system. There are some zones where the area designer marked all the items as “owned” even if it doesn’t make sense, and that’s it. But hey, it also happens the other way, there is a ton of equipment and chests and doors which you can take and open without consequences, and the npcs around you doesn’t react as in real world.
Btw, some people tries to rationalize that the Gang Powder equipment is from NCR really, so you are stealing from NCR.

1> The tick mark represents optimum condition. Any gun below that condition has a chance of jamming.

2> Repair also allows you to use the reloading bench to craft ammo, aside from what Naeblis mentioned.
