About time, though I can’t shake the feeling that it’s not going to actually fix my playthrough. Fingers crossed.

i got weirdly bored and have uninstalled the game after about 45 hours into it.

maybe i’ll come back to it when we get dlc

Out of curiosity, what do you think DLC will bring to the table that will be more interesting than the actual game?

I wonder if this will happen…

I would sure love to have Fallout in Obsidian’s hands for good.

It would be nice, especially if the next Fallout can run in an engine co-developed by Bethesda/Obsidian and id. Graphical prowess and modding have always been staples of id, and Bethesda and Obsidan can give the new id Tech engines some RPG framework bolt-ons that will let them do all the quest, dialog, character development, faction, and inventory systems that their types of games require. The interesting thing is that id seems to be moving in the direction of more story focused games as well, so they could turn around and use the new RPG tech to make a new Rage sequel or such using some or all of those features.

Other than that, Obsidian seems to have a better handle on writing and making things kitschy and kooky.

Best thing that could possibly happen to both Bethesda and Obsidian, and to their customers as well.

It annoys me to no end that it is sometimes very hard to say which faction you really help out with certain quests and how it will affect your fame and karma. For example, killing a certain member in an area might actually raise your fame and just delivering a small package which you don’t know what it is going to be used for, will lower it.

I recently ended up doing a quest which somehow fucked my other quest for NCR, basically twisting the whole main questline for the entire game into a direction which I didn’t want it to go.

And of course, I don’t have a savegame of the previous situation since I had no idea what was going to happen. Thus, I’m in a bit of a stalemate, I don’t want to replay half the game because of this, and I don’t want to continue the game into a direction where I wasn’t really headed.

I think all the quests in the strip has this same problem. If I could ask more questions to better understand what I’m doing and why, this wouldn’t really be a problem. Now it’s very arbitrary.

I think I was just overwhelmed with wrpgs currently and as such I’m hoping that DLC would just give me a bit of motivation to try again.

I wouldn’t. Look at the massive volume of re-used assets in New Vegas. I think Obsidian hit a home run because they didn’t have to spend any time engineering the game. They put all their effort into using other people’s tools to (masterfully) tell their (compelling, worthwhile, original) story. Ping-pong between a competent technical shop and Obsidian will keep Fallout relevant to contemporary tech on one release, and juicy/actually worth playing on the Obsidian release.

I can’t argue your original point, that some things aren’t quite clear with the quests…but I can question your save pattern on a game we know to be chock full of bugs…

I’m up to 250 saves I think. Level 22. I’ve only had to go back once (broken quest)…and was pretty upset it was a full 20m of play ago. ;)

Hey, the game is coming out of beta! Now I can finally start playing…

I’m finishing a third playthrough now. It’s out of beta. Most of the fixes listed are for very rare or very minor problems.

i reinstalled last night. heh.

i decided to try evil bruiser for this next playthrough.

I’m doing this too. There is a pretty funny thing that happens if you start with an Int of 3 and go to the Med Clinic for an implant.

Are they ever going to address the microstutter issue? It’s been in there since Oblivion. There is one solution out there, but it unfortunately causes all the lip-syncing to go out of sync.

It’s maddening.

At this point I’m willing to just throw in the towel and buy the 360 SKU, but I’ve already invested 30 hours into this thing.

If bethesda was unable to fix it in 2 games, I wouldn’t count on Obsidian being able to do much about it

I’m done. I’m level 29 and finally starting the main quest, but New Vegas is too much of a slog to continue. I recognize that the writing is inspired, with the caveat that New Vegas is obviously riding on story resources cannibalized from all the other canceled Fallouts. The writing is so good that it almost made me forget that I was Fed-Ex’ing between inexplicably rubble-strewn McDungeons in 2010’s worst shooter.

So wait… you levelled up to 29 and didn’t finish the game?

My first playthrough I finished in the high teens. If you really don’t like a game’s gameplay, why would you wander around exploring and doing so much optional stuff?

I didn’t like Oblivion much, so I played it a bit and then won. I didn’t go do all the Daedra quests or all the guild crap and then not finish it because I hated the gameplay.
