The robot at Gun Runners or the Gun Runners guy at the 188 trading post should both have ammo for just about everything. Oh, and Mick’s “special stock”. Personally I used the .308 sniper rifle and 12.7 pistol, then the .50 MG sniper rifle and .40 Gov’t hunting pistol for quite a while. I basically like the stuff that can kill things with a single VATS head shot.

Yeah I was able to get enough .45-70 Govt ammo from the Gun Runners to keep myself going. It got pricey though. On the other hand if you get decent at Caravan it’s not that hard to have a ton of caps.

So the DLC is out - on the 360 only at this point. So much for a “simultaneous release” on this one. Of course the PS3 version was delayed because of the PSN issues, but the PC version was supposed to be on Steam. Bethesda says they are looking into it on the official boards, but I suspect it really comes down to it being a minor concern on a day with two other bigger titles (Witcher 2, Fable 3) launching on there.
Hopefully it will show up later today, but it’s been awhile since Steam hasn’t had stuff up by 10AM PST on release day, AFAIK.
Edit: So the DLC finally showed up on Steam, but nobody can actually buy it due to some sort of error. Lovely.
I got it, after a few error messages. Seems it was showing up but not quite queued up for download or purchase or something. Seems fine now.

I eventually got around it using the “buy as a gift and send it to yourself” trick that was discovered. I’ve played a bit of it - no technical issues to speak of, though there is a bit of pop-up here and there.
Edit: Ha, apparently its easy for trigger happy players to end the story really quick. I know the part they are talking about, too.
It’s a potent symbol of the atomic age, from the 1950’s no less, and it tops anything the Obsidian crew could dream up.
The test site is in the southeast corner.

I’m slowly working my way through the new DLC. It’s a pretty decent sized area with quite a bit to see and an interesting story. One thing that’s fun is the little side stories. There’s even an apparent “Lord of the Flies” reference. That kind of stuff is cool when you find/discover/realize it.
What’s the going rate for this DLC? $10ish?
I don’t really care about Dead Money, but Honest Hearts sounds like just what I was looking for more of.

It’s totally underwhelming, and I don’t think it’s meant to actually represent the entire Nevada Test Site (which is huge, and contains those cool dimples in the earth that are the result of underground detonations).
iirc the Nevada test site consists of a spectator’s area, a small fenced in area with a shack, and lots of radiation.
ED-E My Love messing with Honest Hearts.

What’s the specific bug? Is it if ED-E leaves during Honest Hearts or something?
I finished Dead Money yesterday (took me a few days, off and on) and Honest Hearts today–took me, um, about six hours tops. Of the two, the former was more interesting but more frustrating (hate puzzles); the latter was more traditional gameplay but ultimately fairly meh. One high point though was the storyline of the guy in the caves with the diary entries–I liked that, thought the writing was pretty good. Not as good as the writing/voices in Dead Money, but pretty good.
So after both DLCs I’m now I think 27 and still have not yet made it to the Strip. Oh, I’m at the end of the first Bounties one too, so between those missions and the two DLCs I have quite the arsenal.
Third time through the game and it’s still rather fun, which says something I guess.

Yeah, the Survivalist stuff is really well done. I’m looking forward to reading all those entries in order when I’m finished.
I thought that word was verboten around here?
