Have they actually stated that? (Genuine question)

I remember in the New Vegas interviews Todd Howard had said that Bethesda would be doing the development for Fallout 4. I’m trying to find a source but I can’t at the moment.

They can call it whatever they want. I’ve played it at PAX. It feels and looks like the same engine with just a graphical overhaul.

All the more reason to wait for the reviews… the most telling reviews being: “Wow, I can’t wait to mod this” or “Modders are going to fix the shit out of this piece of shit.” or “Vanilla sucks, play the mod.” or “Mod, mod mod. Mod!”

I’m not falling for another Oblivion debacle.

It’s been stated more then a few times that Bethesda’s intent is for the Todd Howard team to alternate between Elder Scrolls and Fallout titles. That’s why they bought the Fallout IP, to give them something to do other then just Elder Scroll games all the time.

I am with Telefrog. Most of the times a company swears they used a new engine, it’s “new” in the sense it’s the old one with lots of rework. Which is fine enough if they retooled the bad parts.

But people shouldn’t believe so easily what the companies say.

Mods can fix a lot of stuff but unfortunately not the writing and thats my biggest concern. I’ve never finished Oblivions main quest because I just couldn’t stomach it.

If you don’t mind reading all the quests, and hearing non-english verbal dialog, play the Nephrim total conversion. It’s basically like an all new game.

That might be the snobbiest thing I’ve ever heard in real life.

The hyperbole level in this thread is at +10 and rising, between statements like “I couldn’t stomach Oblivion’s main quest” and, my favorite, “another Oblivion debacle”.

“not my cup of tea” != debacle

unless you are are Qt3 yenta, I guess :)

I keep wondering why some of these people are even here. Pro tip: if you think Oblivion was a total disaster then you are probably going to find some things you don’t like about Skyrim. The fact that is sold so well means that while some things will be changed, a bunch of things will stay the same. And story has never been the main reason to buy an Elder Scrolls game. ;-)

That said, being disappointed by how clumsily it was handled in Oblivion is not ridiculous.

My point isn’t to defend the plot, which was bad and cliche. Just that some people (Kerzain, for example) keep posting in threads about Oblivion and say things that indicate a total dislike of the game, going well beyond the story. Those are the people I was referring to.

Threads arent only for people who like the particular game / movie - it would be rather boring then.

Personally, I did the same thing in the Empire:Total war thread since the game was pure garbage (for me) and I wanted to yell at it and make sure no-one fell into the same trap I did. I suspect its the same thing here :-)

But did you post in the Shogun II thread a whole bunch of times about it? That’s where I think some people go overboard.

Oh, right, because everything Bethesda has done starts and ends with Oblivion…

I could say

“some people have a different opinion of me” != hyperbole about how ‘bad’ was the game.

Also

“Oblivion was a mediocre game” != “not my cup of tea”

I disliked Oblivion and liked Morrowind and Fallout 3. What now? :/

I was extremely skeptical about Fallout 3 because disliked Oblivion so much, yet Fallout 3 was one of my favorite games. Despite how much they share, they’re very, very different games in many important areas.

Oblivion with guns!
