It’s possible NV not being a true sequel in name limited its sales somewhat. If Obsidian developed a Fallout 4 (with the Bethesda name still attached to it), no reason it shouldn’t do very well.

That may not have helped, but it was hurt more by a) Obsidian’s reputation for buggy games and b) initial reviews that in some cases supported that reputation, at least on the XB360 version. Both of those things contributed more to the ultimate sales results, as well as the critical response that meant Obsidian didn’t earn their potential bonus.

None of which matters, really, because even if F:NV had outsold Fallout 3 I still don’t think anyone but Bethesda would be doing it. They bought the franchise because Todd Howard and his team wanted to do something other then Elder Scrolls games all the time. There is no reason to think that plan has changed.

Do you have a definitive source for this? As far as I know, the only official figures are that Fallout 3 initially shipped 4.5M, while F:NV shipped 5M “with substantial reorders”.

The only other dodgy figures I’ve seen still show F:NV ahead, like VGChartz first week sales showing F:NV 30% ahead of F3 (yes, I know, VGChartz).

Did I miss a good source at some point?

Edit: Agree that BGS will make F4, by the way, just curious about the sales figures.

Possible spoiler but do Ceasar’s Legion assassins ever stop spawning and attacking you once you are vilified by them?

Nope.

They will not stop until you are dead!

Aghh. So I have to deal with this crap for the rest of the game? Hmm, tempted to reload an older save tbh. That means going WAY back.

I don’t know what level you are or at what part of the story you are at (or the difficulty you are playing at for that matter) but I don’t recall them being all that much of a challenge past a certain point and even then they are rarely encountered unless you head into certain areas.

that’s what I would have thought but I fast-travelled to the Grub and Gulp rest stop and they appeared there. A named NPC, Fitz I think, was taken out in the crossfire. Then I was making my down from Black mountain with very little health and they insta-spawned there and finished me off.
TBH, I think it’s just going to get tiring and I wish I’d known about earlier in which case I would have taken Ceasar out nearer end game.

I’m level 22 on Normal difficulty btw. If they only appear in certain areas I don’t mind but I can see it breaking the flow of the game if I sniping away at a radscorpion in sneak and them fools appear to spoil the party.

That’s kind of the thing with Bethesda games… the system dares you to do anything you want, and you can - just don’t expect anyone to notice.

Have you finished the main quest “Ring-a-ding-ding” yet? Doing so will reset your rep with the Legion.

yep, unfortunately my progression along that quest-line has got me into the position that I took Ceasar out.

thanks anyway. I’ve noticed they only really spawn in certain areas so I’ll put up with it.

Annoying…I can’t find the modding thread anymore, but does anyone have John E Motion’s Lounge Hits and Space Age Exotica radio mod lying around anywhere?I didn’t keep my copy when I wiped my machine last month, and I can’t seem to find it anywhere. :(

I have a question about the DLC if anyone knows. I am hoping the Steam Summer sale starts next week. I know the DLC for this game, at the very least, will be available for half off so I can’t bring myself to pay full price for them when I know that VERY SOON they will be on sale.

Anyway, my question is this: If I start a new game and then later on get the DLC, will the DLC be added to my current game OR do you have to start a new game with the DLC installed?

No need to start a new game after installing DLC. It merges seamlessly and a new area that can be visited is announced when you start up the game again.

Cool thanks. Next week if the Steam sale has not started, I can start with my game in any case and integrate the DLC when it is finally on sale.

There is one consideration: Each DLC has a recommended level range. For example, level 20 is the minimum recommended for Dead Money and level 15 for Old World Blues.

Fortunately, when you go to actually move to a DLC area, it tells you the recommended minumum level. It’s a straight progression.

Honest hearts: 10.
Old World Blues: 15.
Dead Money: 20.
Lonesome Road: 25.

Personally, I think Dead Money is more like 30. Dead Money takes all your gear from you, so you’d better be able to survive some nasty stuff with nothing better than a .38 pistol and light armor.

Honest Hearts has something of an expiration to it - if you do it post level 20 or so, you’ve got better stuff than just about anything you’ll find. The .45 Colt pistols and Thompson SMGs which are such a mainstay of Honest Hearts are a big deal at level 10, but not terribly interesting when you’ve got typical level 20 gear.

I just started playing NV about 3 weeks ago after finally “finishing” Skyrim, and looking for something else to fill my open world addiction. It does a marvelous job of scratching that itch (and I was able to get the collection for the 360 that included all add-ons and DLC.)

As addicted as I was to Skyim and still think about it, as much as I loved that world (and that is what I’m really looking for, give me a really great open world in which to explore,) I actually prefer .357 magnums to enchanted swords and roaming gang members to daugers. So I am really, really loving NV. I’m only level 18, but I’ve already thrown in with the NCR (hard to imagine, as I try to truly role play and make decisions I’d make in real life as much as possible, siding with the Legion) and most everyone else hates me! I’m now far enough in it’s time to read through this thread while still trying to avoid too many spoilers.

Yeah, me too. I thought Skyrim was decent enough, but I just prefer the Capital Wasteland and New Vegas to anything I saw in Skyrim. Skyrim has a bit more variety in enemies, but a bow is a bow, and doesn’t compare to the wild variety of that is available in firearms.
