Did you use New Vegas Anti-Crash mod? That was a massive improvement in crashes for me.

Yep. I followed an extensive modding guide, with NVAC and many more.

There’s no end to human ingenuity.

Fallout New Vegas is 10 years old today.

A reminder that I need to actually get to it instead of letting it linger in the backlog. I didn’t get to it in 2020, but hopefully in the next year or two.

Consider this one more hearty recommendation to add to the pile. It’s one of my favorite RPGs ever. This is coming from someone who adores Fallout 1 and 2 and was kind of lukewarm on Fallout 3.

I do still have Fallout 4 in my backlog. But I also have both Pillars of Eternity games, Wasteland 2, Dark Souls, Deus Ex: HR, both Divinity: Original Sins titles, the Witcher 3 DLC, and Torment: Tides of Numenera in my backlog as well, all of which are better reviewed.

I played this so much I don’t know if I can play it again, even though the last time was years ago.

My only complaint about this game is that repeated playthroughs are hampered by the somewhat linear opening you must take. Edge of the world to the east, mountains to the west, and deathclaws to the south means every game you have to go north from the starting area.

Well, the Deathclaws are actually north on the Interstate, so you always pretty much have to head south through Primm.

Take your time. I still have Dragon Age: Origins on my “could you please finally finish it” list (stopped somewhere in the 2nd act). Yeah, like that will ever happen at this point.

Best decision I ever made there was to rent Dragon Age: Origins, so I was forced to finish it as fast as I could. Downside of that: I didn’t bother buying the launch DLC which added a golem to your party who was apparently the best character in the game. I did buy the Complete Edition (or whatever it was called) later so I could go through the whole game again, this time with that character in the party. But I doubt if that will ever happen at this point. And I’m okay with that. I got to experience DA: O, and I didn’t like it as much as most others here at Qt3. I just never found their original universe that they created for that game very compelling. And that’s why I didn’t play the sequels so far.

Neither did they considering the name of the world is “Thedas”, which came from their development shorthand for “The Dragon Age Setting”.

Play in Survival Mode with JE Sawyer’s mod (updated) for the “real” experience.

Man, I love the idea of these mods, but actually implementing them seems to require far more work than I really want to do.

Be sure to carry the cowboy hat around in your inventory!

It is possible to sneak pass them and get to Vegas early. I think you hug the right ridge line. You’ll pass by the Black Mountain mutant compound which is along the way. Their placement of Deathclaws is still pretty thorough.

But it is obvious the designers intended you to take the long way around to hit a bunch of quests and story beats you would otherwise miss.

Yeah, I posted the mod and thought “it would be fun to jump in again!” Two hours later, I have a screen full of mod tabs and a Vortex install that is not working. Its a barrier to entry.

I am having fun checking out the Dust mod, total survival rehaul. But it takes work to go from “looks cool” to actually playing.

Dust is not so much a ‘survival rehaul’ as a total conversion. All new story, none of the old F:NV story, quests, NPCs, etc. It is unforgiving and extreme, so come with a mindset for a new survival paradigm, don’t expect to sleep more than 2 or 3 hours at a time or you die of thirst/hunger, combat is VERY deadly. sanity is a status (drink a lot of alcohol, or go slowly crazy)… same modder as Fallout 4: Frost mod.

" DUST is a Post-Apocalyptic survival simulator with an emphasis on lore and story. DUST completely overhauls nearly every aspect of the game to better represent an apocalyptic survival-horror atmosphere. Combat, weather, perks, loot, enemies, you name it. Some areas have even been visually overhauled. All vanilla NPCs have either been killed or changed beyond all recognition. You will not be able to complete quests or join factions. There is but one quest in DUST. Stay alive.

DUST takes place 20 years after the events of New Vegas. As you explore you will slowly learn the story of DUST, but unlike vanilla Fallout, you are not the main character. You are simply a bystander, and must create your own story. There is one way to win DUST. A true survivor must escape the Mojave. With help from notes and keen observation, one may be able to learn of the exit. Even then, the player will have to go a long way to get out."

Super, looking forward to it. Trying to figure out what the minimum essential other mods are to add to it. Will post here with conclusions. The mod itself has a “suggested mods” list but most are very old or not supported or not highly subscribed, so a taking with a grain of salt.

My goal is a curated “Salt Plus” list of mods that are easy to install and work together.

How does this make any sense?

I played a tun of this game. I do not think I can really play it again. It is easily my favorite fallout game though. I am also sick of skyrim, short of a total conversion, I can’t see myself playing that ever again. Currently I am playing oblivion which I never did play all that much in the past for some reason.
