…or you can play New Vegas in Fallout 4!

I want to believe this will be good and not buggy…

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition is $7.99 on GOG right now.

When you buy this game, The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall will be added to your GOG.com account for free!

New Vegas was pretty great. It wasn’t as “open” as Fallout 3, but the factions and stories and characters and main plotline were all really top-notch.

Dust is pretty cool. I feel like a scavenger living on the fringes of a hostile post-apoc world.

“Flora Restora” returns salvageable plants back to the world. It goes well with the increased meters in Dust. Food will be there when you search. It feels right - I don’t have much food, and when I see a farm I raid it for a few pieces of maize.

“Wasteland Defense” gives you water at your base, which turns hydration into a logistics problem. How much should you carry? How far should you wander if you get low? Combined with “No Fast Travel” it allows for interesting decisions slightly different than the default Dust feel of constantly dying of thirst.

Here is my mod list. I prefer Mod Organizer 2 to manage them.

You can get the same load order by sorting the mod plugins using the built in tool in mod manager, then manually moving all of the Dust related mods to the bottom. Then make sure ILO is at the very end.

EDIT: Big updated to the mod list with some tips, and new views of the mod order.

So you got me to try out this Dust mod and boy, definitely not for me. Turning the entire map of New Vegas until a hostile zone full of enemies, just…no.

I think I made it 10 feet out of my shack before I was swarmed to death by fast moving man-lizards.

It takes a little getting used to! Yes you are right, it kills all plot NPCs, devastates the landscape, adds some tough monsters, and re-does the factions to make them pretty much all hostile. And then it covers everything in thick dust. :-)

I am enjoying it more than I thought. It’s like Day Z and STALKER with a Fallout role playing vibe. And I like VATS, it means I don’t have to try and aim.

I met a neutral ghoul trader in the hills. He had a flame thrower. I followed him around while he burned some tunnelers. I took their hides.

I met an encampment of BOS. They were neutral. I used them as a base of operations for a while. They shot anything that chased me back. I got scorched by their lasers once in a crossfire.

I see solo raiders and I run. I can kill them, but I don’t want to waste the ammo. I need the ammo to take farms and get food. Looting their crappy armor and weapon isn’t worth it to me.

I have a tiny base with a single guard. He fought off a raider. Too bad I didn’t tell him about the old landmine in the area - he stumbled into it and died instantly.

I slept for a few hours, then equipped a enough food, water and ammo to explore a new area. It was dark when I set out. I got in a firefight at dawn with a survivor who was guarding their camp. After a tense exchange I won, and then had to be smart about what loot I was going to haul back on the 10 minute walk to my base. I was chased by a few things. I am not sure what they were because I was too scared to turn around and look. Sprinting makes your survival timers deplete more quickly. I was thirsty and tired by the time I got back.

Those are the sorts of stories it tells. :-)

Yeah I get it, but for me with Fallout I really need quests and factions. I am not really interesting in a solo survival game with a huge portion of it being combat or whatever. Cool though there are actually some neutral NPCs about. Wouldn’t probably survive long enough to encounter them.

It would be more interesting to me if they actually kept joinable factions and quests and they fought over and claimed territory like Stalker only it was sort of a no mans land outside of faction strongholds. From what I read there is nothing like that and you’re on your own. The NRC, raiders, etc mostly shoot on sight.

Posted big update to the Dust mod list above, after testing for a while longer. With two views of the load order and tips on how to recreate it easily. I am still enjoying Dust, feels like Fallout 1 crossed with Day Z.

I am calling it.

Fallout: New Vegas has achieved the newly founded “Deus Ex” award in outstanding reverence during a decade transition. (2010)

Just like Deus Ex (2000) it has achieved lasting appeal and admiration.

That is all.

As my own belated contribution in tribute to 10+ years of F:NV, here’s a new run from last Thursday which I enjoyed watching and redefines what’s possible in the game:

I feel a little bad posting an April Fool’s video this late, but it has a very nice subtle (to me) build-up in it and is almost believable up until a certain point.

Either these bots or getting smarter or someone actually went to the trouble of making several posts to promote their shitty MMO gold seller.

Re the Speed Run: It’s interesting the first time I watch someone who is using game bugs and hacks etc. but I’m not really impressed at a speed run that doesn’t use the actual in game gameplay. Kinda like if someone found out that if you pressed these 10 keys in a row while holding down the mouse right click when you start the game it jumps you to “Game Over.” Eh.

I am pretty sure that video is bogus and an April fools joke.
I could have bought it as real, knowing all the bugs and idiosyncrasies of these game engines, however, the moment they launched stellaris by humping a gnome…

Based on Fallout: New Vegas engine, comes Fallout: Nuevo Mexico.

Man, did F:NV really look that bad, with full-bright lighting outdoors?

No comment on the game quality, F:NV was one of the best of all time, but the graphics really do look like shit.

It looked pretty bad, yeah. Screwing around with ENBs is always what keeps me from actually playing the game. I should just resign myself to the bad graphics and just play it. Or finally find an ENB instruction and recommendation that actually works and makes it look much better.

It is pity this mod didn’t come out years ago, cause it looks there is a ton of work involved in making it.
The music is nice and makes me wish I had learned Spanish…

But, I’m not re-installing Fallout NV, despite it being my favorite in the series. The graphics and gameplay are just to old.

Gameplay hasn’t really aged much at all, vastly superior to F4. But those graphics, oof.

I disagree, I prefer F4 gameplay, especially weapon moding, to FNV. I do think storytelling and giving players interesting options did reach the zenith at FNV though.

Well, that’s just like your opinion, man.
