How can they possibly debug it – can you send your Xbox saves to them, like you could do on the PC?
…or you have a flaky hard drive :)
How are “something getting corrupted” and “flaky hard drive” exclusive?
So from one of the earlier saves I’ve made a beeline to where I was before, and I’m now getting the same freezes. I seem to have hit on some unholy combination of stuff that’s killing the game and corrupting my saved games. Fuck this. At midnight, I’m going to pick up a copy of Vanquish so I can just shoot stuff.

You can put savegames on a USB thumbdrive now, can’t you? Maybe you can send your saves to Bethesda to take a look.
Sorry to hear about all that time wasted. I know it would drive me up the wall.

I think this proves it folks. Console gaming is domed. ;-)
You have my sympathy. There is nothing quite as sucky as having a save go bad on you causing you to lose hours of gaming time or worse yet, having to restart from scratch. It is one of the reasons I save frequently and to many different save files in any rpg I play. OTOH, this sounds like no amount of caution would have prevented this.
I hope Tom’s experience is the exception rather than the rule.
My PC version of Fallout New Vegas unlocks at 3 AM. My strange addiction to food and shelter will prevent me from playing it until after work.
The timer keeps moving the unlock hour ahead, shit on a stick. First it said noon, then midnight, then 1 am now 3 am. After refresh that is, cockles.

Depends on where you are. Midnight pacific time is 3AM on the east coast.
My copy on steam just downloaded an extra 4 mb…something. Normal, or -1 day patch?

They had to update The Strip to reflect the new casinos that have been built since the game went gold.
You are quick on the draw. (take the quick draw perk)

Apparently Gerstmann’s got a bum hard drive, too.
So is it to much to hope for to think that PC version maybe more stable than the Xbox.
Or am I better off betting my house on the pass line at the crap table?

A well written game filled with interesting characters married to a technical mess of a game engine.
At this point, this should just be the review of every obsidian game.

The engine’s fine, oblivion and fallout3 were stable. It’s just buggy, because obsidian can’t QA for shit.

So Bethesda has no role in the state of release? Last time I heard, the publisher plays a bigger role in QA then the developer does.
Stable? I guess (although Fallout 3 bugged out a lot on quad cores until 1.7), but certainly not bug/glitch free. I remember one glitch that Fallout 3 had for me at launch- whenever I transitioned items/mobs would randomly spawn above the ground and then fall instead of at their intended spots.
I can definitely back Tom up on the bugginess of the game. This thing hard crashes if you look at it funny. That’s leaving aside the various creative ways you can break quests to the point of needing to reload much older saves. Keep multiple slots going, people. Seriously.
