Didn’t you idiots learn anything from Elemental? When Tom hints about the stability or general quality of a game not being up to snuff, you’d think you’d be all ears.
No, instead you go all durrrrrr maybe his xbox is busted, dfufffffrrrrr, drool, poop.

Ugh. Still excited to play the game from the GB review, but I’ll pass and play Fable 3 in the meanwhile and wait for the first few patches (unofficial or official) to hit before picking this up for either the PC or Xbox. Figure it will be on sale again around the end of the year.
Oh get off your high horse. The reason people were suggesting that there could be problems was other people stating that they weren’t having those problems. No need to go into ‘HURR YOU PEOPLE ARE DUMB’ mode.
The game probably is buggy, but seriously, most open world games are in my experience. There’s just too many options/combinations/sequences that can happen.

Now that the review embargo has ended, reviews are starting to pop up. What’s odd is that technical complaints are all over the place for the 360 version. Some reviews don’t mention any at all. Giantbomb’s review (mentioned above) says he had 12 hard crashes in 33 hours of play, while Joystiq totally bitches about having 3 in his playthrough, but seems more upset that the graphics are MOTS.
The giantbomb review kind of makes it sound like a lot of the technical problems are inherited from fallout 3.
The Joystiq one too (Although the joystiq one is incredibly off in my opinion and the guy sounds like he slept through the game and is just pissed that it doesn’t have a new engine) with the AI pathing. Fuck gamebryo.

GameInformer and GamePro have also weighed in and while both mention minor bugs and issues, neither says anything about crashes. And the GI writer earlier tweeted that he’d played the game several times, though it’s not as if his review is only glowing, giving it an 8.5. Weird to see all these varying experiences on the technical side.
Not much news on the PC version.
Exactly my point. When it comes to a game they have been anticipating, gamers will grasp at any possible to straw. Like there is some magical console out there that takes away all the bugs and technical issues.

There’s nothing wrong with questioning the conclusions of a single source (in this case Tom) when similar evidence from other sources is lacking. Even now the reports of just how widespread these issue are varies considerably, as noted in the discussion of reviews above. And none of this tells me how my PC version will run anyway, does it?
So, I just bought a game I’m not allowed to install, with a promise of forthcoming DLC I won’t be allowed to purchase. Way to remember your PC roots, guys, thanks!
Quick note: Apparently they’ve already released a quick patch for the PC version (with other platforms coming IIRC) that fixes a memory leak. That could very well be causing some of the crashes indicated.

Is this a midnight unlock on steam? Cuz if so huh no sleep for me,

From what I’ve heard it should be a midnight unlock. Remember to restart your Steam if any errors pop up, that usually fixes 'em.
Yes, I do drool when I poop. Funny, that.

This thread on the official forums is doing a pretty good job of collecting reviews that have dropped since the embargo ended. A few more of the bigger sites have dropped now, and again, are varying on seeing the lockup/crash issues even when they complain about other glitches. Planet XBox 360 says they didn’t have any, Ars Technica says they did.
Sounds like… a Gamebryo engine game.

Pretty much. ;-)
In other news, the people who bought the PC version without realizing the Steam linkage are throwing fits on the official boards. It’s amusing.

I think you’re literally the only person I’ve ever seen say Gamebryo is fine. You’re right about Obsidian, though.
But is so hard to do a decent QA? I don’t think so, being honest. I think it’s just that they don’t have the time/money/resources to do it right in most of their games.

Oh, man, that breaks my heart.
More than anything Fallout New Vegas makes me paranoid. I’m just waiting for some bug in the main story that will halter my progress completely. I’ve already encountered a minor one where an NPC has ignored a big event, and is stuck in an outdated dialogue tree. It doesn’t make any sense, and stuff like that can easily break the whole game given the right circumstances.
On the flip side: Holy hell, the main story in this game is so much more interesting than what Bethesda managed to squeeze out of their game. It gets pretty convoluted, to say the least. I’m loving it.
The rest is still pretty meh.
