How’s the performance on the PS3?
So are pistols with the cowboy perk actually any good?

For those of us playing on PC, it looks like the quick/autosave disappearing bug was actually Steam’s fault. The steamcloud synced up with the initial quick and autosave from when the player first began playing then would re-sync them every time you started the game back up. None of the reviewers hit this bug, because the game wasn’t released and steamcloud wasn’t activated. They disabled steamcloud to avoid this, so it shouldn’t happen as of a couple hours ago.
Also, if you bought the DVD version and want to install off the disk rather than downloading the whole thing:
- Delete local content for F:NV inside steam
- Fully close steam. No icon in your taskbar etc.
- Assuming that steam is installed on your C drive and your DVD drive is D, run “c:\progra~1\steam.exe -install D:”
There are also reports that performance is significantly improved if you disable AA and AF inside the game then force them on through your video card’s control panel.

I had a similar problem with Fallout 3 a few days ago and solved it by doing what docvego said - switching from the software accel thing to hardware. But as you say, there ain’t an option for that in the game. If you have a creative x fi card, all you need to do is run the updater and get the latest version of Alchemy and use that to manually add the game to the “always use hardware acceleration list”. Hopefully that’ll work for you.

I have an issue in win7 with Fallout3 where I can’t play fullscreen when I have a 2nd monitor active. Is this maybe cured in NV?

Sorry, I don’t think where you play the game is going to make any difference.

So it turns Fallout: New Vegas into Gamma World 4e? I’ll be havin’ some of that, please…

I have 3 monitors going (Eyefinity setup, but Fallout has poor support for it) and NV is running fine on just one, with the other two showing my desktop.
Note that it’s a trait, not a perk, so you pick it at character creation. You can’t add it in later.

PS3 fine for me so far. Performance seems on par with fallout 3.
Wild Wasteland trait is too good to pass up, I think.
Edit to fix dumb.
Whoops, that’s right, it’s a trait. Don’t get sucked into my vortex of terminology confusion.

Uh, don’t you have it backwards? The PC automatically uses hardware acceleration unless you tell it to use software. And I’ve tried changing it with no luck :(
I’ve been playing a little on PC and am having some technical issues - couple of times Steam has stopped responding, and once the game just froze up (right after I killed the stupid geckos the second time, because I didn’t save enough!). Plus it seems to stutter every couple of seconds for no good reason, plus it freezes up for about a second whenever it switches to the external view when I’m killing something in VATS. Playing 1920 x 1090 fullscreen, with everything turned up, going to turn stuff down to see if it helps (fyi, Fallout 3 ran fine with this same setup).

I just had my second crash in the first hour…
I’m digging the setting so far, but I"m hoping the bugginess clears up a bit.

Bless you. I had another 6-7 hours of download left. Idiotic design decision to force a download.

The steam integration was obviously VERY last minute, with the savegames being obliterated and all. Can’t blame that on obsidian or gamebyro, although I’m sure some would try.

I get this too. Not every couple seconds, but frequently enough to be annoying.
They annouced it 5 months ago. How could that be considered last minute?

scratch that. he said he’s now had to restart the game at least 4 times today.
Best Buy failed to have my CE pre-order so I guess I’ll have to go through Amazon. Did get four sweet coasters out of it, though, so it’s not a total loss.
Edit: Annnnd great, Amazon doesn’t have them anymore. Friggin’ Best Buy. First time I tried to go through them in a year and of course they suck.
