Far Cry Primal - In prehistoric eras, they still had towers to climb

Exact opposite for me.

I was expecting some bland, generic melee game and thus immediately dismissed it. This adds a new and somewhat unique mechanic to the game so it has me interested.

I bounced off Far Cry 3 pretty hard. Far Cry 4 held my interest for a little longer. Especially with that little gyrocopter thing. But it’s no Far Cry 2. I lost interest in that one too (Far Cry 4), with no desire to go back. So I don’t think you missed much.

Far Cry 2 still cries out to me sometimes though.

Come back to me. Says Far Cry 2. Turn off the music and listen to the sounds of the wind in the grass.

Same, i didn’t like the pets.

FC3 is the first sandbox/open world game where I stopped after “winning” the game and still having a lot of map unexplored. I cleared all the strongholds on the second island, then realized there was nothing worth exploring; all of the caves, etc. were nothing but places where boxes with fake cuban cigars and porn mags and a statue or two in them (of which I’d seen a bazillion of the same previously.) I hated the main story but enjoyed wandering through the island as a stealthy Rambo, taking out the bad guys silently with my bow, watching when they finally figured out someone was taking them out and trying to find me.

FC4 I actually enjoyed the main story, and loved, again, playing a stealthy Rambo when in pure explore mode. The mini chopper was just quirky enough to not make it overpowered like a chopper in JC2, but allowed me to clear all the towers without having to climb them. And best of all was playing co-op with a friend - that mode was very well done, and since I’d unlocked the top weapons including the best sniper rifle, I helped my friend (actually my brother in TN) get it for himself. It was a great gaming experience teaming up with him to take out the hardest fortresses. Love love loved it.

For this one, the pets just don’t fit my favorite style of play, which is stealthy Rambo. We’ll see.

I am still hoping for a mini chopper, though the owl is pretty neat. :)

Im watching the offical gameplay trailer, and am a bit disappointed. The very first thing is a man screaming in your face, and you have to flee. The next thing you know, you have to find the enemy tribe, for revenge… Sigh. I would have LOVED if you had to instead build up and help your tribe survive in what certainly was an extremely hostile world already. Instead, its just a reskinned farcry game, where everything you upgrade is weapons and armor, headshots, and the same boring shit we’ve seen from them for quite some time.

I like the theme and the pets, but the gameplay seems no different from anything we’ve seen it the last two iterations (Again, aside from the pets). Too bad - I would have loved a primal world simulator in the Far Cry engine - Instead, we got yet another revenge simulator.

Memo to Ubisoft from Todd’s Business Consulting:

Based on my strategic analysis of your worldwide operations and assets you need to:

PUT CLINT HOCKING IN CHARGE OF FAR CRY 5 IMMEDIATELY.

Please deposit the usual consulting fee in my account.

Sincerely,
Todd

Should have gone full “One Million Years BC” and had environments with both dinosaurs and other prehistoric life, regardless of whether or not they fit historically.

That’s what I said earlier. Period authenticity holds no interest to me whatsoever.

I don’t think authenticity will be a huge part here.

This looks excellent! I love the beastmaster angle, different and a fun shake-up to the Far Cry system. Also, the map with a real fog of war is way cooler than I’d have imagined when seeing it in action vs reading about it.

I’m curious, for those that didn’t like the pet stuff, why not?

When other people are negative, Scott is here to love everything. It’s heart-warming :)

Because I’m a ninja, and I don’t want Tigra getting in my way or slowing me down or giving away my cover. At least Lydia had, er… could carry my dragon bones.

IMO the only flaw of FC2 was that there was no civil war outside of cut scenes, gameplay was just the player versus a single faction. FC3’s problem was that the world became very empty once you cleared the outposts, in 4 enemies still spawned in liberated sectors and outposts could get attacked and reconquered if you were nearby.

From the gameplay videos, the cats seem to stealth with you.

Yeah, it was pretty clear from the video that the animals were used to enhance specific play styles, like stealth or charging in … er, arrows blazing. I’m still not sure what the problem with the animal stuff might actually be, but to each his own - I thought this looked excellent, and it went from a “hey, I’ll get this at some point” to a pre-order. Such a cool idea.

Ubisoft confirmed that Far Cry Primal will not have co-op or any other multiplayer.

We are focusing entirely on creating the best possible Far Cry experience for our fans. Bringing the Stone Age to life and providing players with a strong gameplay experience based off of the Far Cry legacy meant we had to reinvent our core gameplay loop. This was definitely not a small undertaking. Our focus was on delivering this fantasy which required clear priorities for the team. Therefore, in the early stages of the project, we made the difficult choice of focusing our efforts on the single player experience.

They are currently streaming the game live on Twitch… http://www.twitch.tv/ubisoft

OK. Pass then. I really enjoyed FC4, a lot more than FC3, but what made it great for me was playing co-op with a friend against the AI. No co-op = no buy for me.

Thank you ubisoft for focusing on the core experience and not pulling a bioware.
