Farcry 2 Fixed my Minivan!

So my 12 year old Nissan Quest sprung a coolant leak, but taking a cue from Far Cry 2, I grabbed a hex wrench and tightened the single bolt that I found under the hood.

It’s fixed!

Actually it’s not. They wanted 400 dollars just to remove enough of the engine to find the leak.

I lolled.

Now we’re getting a new car. Probably a Mazda5.

12 years is a pretty long time to have a car, and if a radiator leak is the only thing wrong with it, that’s pretty cool.

$400 is ridiculous, considering it’s pretty easy to find a radiator leak. It’s most likely the water pump gasket that finally gave out after 12 years of expansion and contraction, although any number of rubber hoses in the system could be a culprit. After removing my own car engine to replace a head gasket, it became apparent to me that these places will say shit like “we have to remove parts of the engine to find the leak” but in reality it takes several minutes of scrutinizing under the car while the engine is running.

Hey, I …

just kidding.

Given that we got it free from my wife’s parents 7 years ago, you can categorize the experience as almost perfect. :)

I’m kind of conflicted though…we’re listing it in our Church bulletin as free to anybody with a true need for a van…on the other hand the blue book value/edmunds value is something like 1500-2000 even given the condition.

:P

“Dad, what’s the point of this story?”
“I like stories.”
