Favorite Game Music

Mafia in general had great music, but I don’t think Django counts, at least not for the purposes of this thread.

Since I just started playing King’s Bounty: Armored Princess, I’m really liking some of the music, which is in handy OGG format in the game’s directory.

Mafia used a great deal of Django’s music, but it did have original orchestral music, composed by Vladimir Simunek.

Rome Total War:

Civ 4:

I know. I wasn’t suggesting that the original orchestral music wasn’t wonderful. It most certainly was.

Oooh, totally forgot about this one: Anarchy Online!!!

It was also Blade Runner influenced like ME but I liked it much more. I recall it being more dynamic and less a rip-off than an homage. :)

Wow, found this today. Sorry if it’s been posted before but YouTube user garudoh has created a whole series of videos called The Music of Video Games which includes samples of game soundtracks to over 500 video games at the moment. I’m going through 'em to hear soundtracks I missed somehow or revisiting old favorites. :) It’s pretty awesome

Zak - Thanks for listing Agony, simply loved that! Wasnt there something about the composer ripping this from somewhere else?

Anyways, speaking of C64, Supremacy had awesome music, and so did Parallax , which can be found here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igVxjCecmEg

My apologies; I misinterpreted your previous comment.

Yeah, I could have been clearer. The score was great, but it’s mostly Django you hear while driving around Lost Heaven.

The music (and other sound design) in Sword & Sworcery (iPad) is really, really fantastic.

(But of course nothing beats Star Control 2, even remotely.)

Phantasy Star III had the best looping dungeon music ever.

The only reason I keep the Thexder Neo demo on my PS3 is for the awesome music that comes up when you highlight it in the menu.

International karate/World karate championship

Need for Speed

Below the Asteroids is the bestest.

That only has some of 'em though! Eve-Files had the rest. :)

Something along those lines, but i thought the original Agony tune was later ripped off by some band or something(so the other way around)? It IS a great tune though.

@ Gordon Cameron,

Alternate Reality on the atari 8bit was just one of those amazing games, especially considering the hardware restrictions. But yeah those music/lyric compositions(each different depending on which building you were in) were a large part in creating the games atmosphere and backdrop. I’m one of those people that feel Philip Price and his music pal, Gary Gilbertson are some of computer game developments un-sung hero’s.

If anyone is big into their old-school style game music i wrote a thread here about how to go about setting up a good playlist, which ‘player’ to use etc:

Man, this Outlaws soundtrack is just as awesome as I remember. Maybe more.

Sander 001, I really gotta thank you for Rainwave. Between that and garudoh’s YouTube channel I’m hearing all sorts of music I’d never heard before, and because of those and this thread, I’m building a list of soundtracks I really want to get copies of. :)

Oh, and I’m shocked no one has mentioned Ascendancy by the way. :P

Oh, wow! I remember that game. I did really love the music, but man was that a frustrating exercise in micromanagement and annoyance. Some good ideas, but…ugh.
