I didn’t like the Sci Fi channel before, but not after reading this, I’m not happy at ALL. Here’s a clip for those for those of you too impatient to click the link ;) :
The beloved Battlestar gets a modern twist when SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking series in which “a ragtag fugitive fleet” of the last remnants of humanity searches for its true home. Fleeing the mechanoid Cylon race responsible for the slaughter of their human colonies, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a new set of challenges in order to escape pursuers hellbent on human extinction. This intriguing take on a classic creates an epic miniseries with action, adventure and family drama.
My opinion? This is going to suck raw eggs. I mean come on, a FEMALE Starbuck?!?! WTF?!?!
Battlestar sucks. Now a Battlecruiser series… that would rock.
I can see it now… Derek Smart drifts through space, searching for intelligent life. Every week he would visit a new planet, try to communicate with the inhabitants, and, in the end, reluctantly conclude that they’re “Damn retards.” Then he’d fly off into space again, alone, while they played that sad Bill Bixby hitchhiking music from the end of The Incredible Hulk. It would be awesome.
My one visit to DragonCon two years ago led me to a discussion with Richard Hatch. He was busy pimping his dream of the vision of Battlestar and was very enthusiastic about the idea, particularly since he was to be one of the characters in it (the old cast would be the parents of the new young generation and their zany adventures). Guess he had no luck getting it sold.
As far as Sci-Fi sucking eggs, I couldn’t tell you. I stopped watching after they prematurely cancelled MST3K (and it seems they STILL show reruns of the show, what the fuck is wrong with them?).
I loved BG in my really young days (we’re talking ages 5 and 6 here), but a few years ago I happened to catch one of those Sci-Fi Xmas marathons of BG, and let me just say that my memory was a helluva lot kinder to that show than I thought. Talk about cheesy. It wasn’t just cheesy, it was cheesy on the scale of Cheez Whiz. And that’s not even including the horrible writing and acting.
I couldn’t stand Sci-Fi’s Dune, let alone Taken… errr, “Steven Spielberg’s Taken”. So I doubt I’ll even show up for this.
On yeah, female Starbuck actress has the same manly jaw as Hillary Swank. No wonder they cast her.
I’ve read the original series of dune books and a few of the son’s somewhat decent offshoots. I’ve also watched both dune movie as well as the children of dune mini series.
Of course the books are the best, but the sci fi movies of the original and children of dune were by no means “butchered.” I think i probably did like the earlier dune movie more though.
As a huge fan of the dune universe (obviously), i was more than glad to watch both of Sci Fi’s dune movies and unlike the disappointing BSG series, the dune mini series do not go insane half way through. Although to be fair dune did have a wonderful writer to base their content on while BSG fired their writers after the first season.
