Fitness Watch Recommendations?

I wish they hadn’t gone with the touch screen on the 7 series tho. I bought the fenix for the form factor (the 6 s pro) - small with physical buttons.

My hesitation is with the size of the watch. Will it fit under a dress shirt cuff? Otherwise I also would have purchased one.

It’s annoying that i seemed to have lost my Garmin Fenix 3X during my move; i’m pretty sure it’s still hiding at a relative’s house, but who knows.

That’s the big drawback for expensive things for me like sunglasses, smart watches, ect. I’m just too disorganized and absent minded, and it’s only a matter of when not if i’ll lose it… and losing a $1,000 device is no fun. Jewerly, ect, i might as well just toss them out the window. I received some silly demi-professional ring a few years ago and lost it within 24 hours.

Coming from an Apple Watch, 6 days of battery life of the Epix seems like an eternity. That said, the 1-2 day battery life of the AW never bothered me.

My first night of sleep using the Garmin wasn’t great. I woke and just laid there for 3 hours, it counted it as sleep, albeit restless sleep.

Looks like you can turn it off for some, none, or all activities though. I plan to have it off for everything but hiking.

Back when I still wore dress shirts, the AW was even too bulky for them, so I imagine the Garmins are even worse.

I came from a Garmin Fenix 6 solar and it was a great watch. I received my Epix on Jan 21st I’ve only had to charge it a few times. My battery life is around 10 days with a standard watch face. I went for a 11 mile bike ride yesterday with the battery at 11%. It tracked my cadence and speed sensors, oxygen and heart rate, and this was with GPS. When I got back I had only used 2% of the battery. The battery life is amazing.

Coming from the Fenix, the new Epix screen is gorgeous. It’s super bright, and is easy to read even in full daylight. One thing I really like is the new high rez screen allows me to have 8 data screens on the watch during a trail ride and they’re all legible. I’ve since retired my Garmin Edge 530 bike computer.

I really like my TicWatch 3 Pro Ultra (geez). Lots of fitness options with Android apps, I mostly use Google Fit. And if I want to I can switch to battery mode that extends life from 3 days (smart watch) to 45 days (only time, steps, heart rate, sleep tracking) - useful on multi day hikes etc.

I stopped wearing my Fitbit Ionic over a year ago because I simply could not stop developing rashes around my wrist. It’s not Fitbit’s fault. I tried different types of watchbands and constantly cleaning them with rubbing alcohol and all, but I guess I just have really sensitive skin.

Well, I just got a recall notice about a battery issue that entitles me to a $299 refund. Holy shit. That may be more than I actually paid.

Now I’m going to go dig my scratched-up Ionic out of storage and cash-in.

Yeah, confirmed, I paid $199 for my Ionic in 2018. Now I’m going to get $299 back. I basically got paid $100 for using it for a few years.

Thanks, Google!

I pretty much get a leather replacement band as soon as I can for my fitness trackers. The cheap silicon one goes into the swim bag for waterproof only and they are notorious for causing skin issues, unlike natural leather materials. YMMV, of course.

Do you get the Garmin brand straps or a third party? Anything outside of the Garmin silicon bands are expensive.

I am torn on the Epix 2. It’s a great watch, bright, beautiful, display and it’s great for fitness. I really like the body battery as well. It’s not perfect, but it seems to reflect generally how I am feeling. On the other hand, none of my credit cards support Garmin Pay, and I miss Siri/apps. Oh, and I miss it for bypassing FaceID in a place that still has mask requirements.

I am sticking with the Garmin full time though.

Third party. Garmin’s are obscenely expensive, and for my 6s, they only have one color. The first one I bought had leather for the click holders to the watch, and those stretched out and wouldn’t hold after four to six months. The one I got with metal on the holders has been solid for a year.

Orange Garmin silicone strap. It looks great with the Epix.

I was actually eyeing that myself. I have always liked black and orange in watches, and I already use a face with an orange accent. Garmin has two oranges though, I and I haven’t decided which one to go with.

I do like the light brown leather with the white garmin :

And this is what your want to look for in the band - metal throughout the snap on portion of the band :

Yeah - got the same email here in Denmark. Its a pretty big deal for fitbit/google -1.7 million watches recalled, is quite a lot of money!

And I bought my watch 4 years ago, and havent used it in two years, and now I get 299 dollars.

On the other hand - if my watch burst into flames while I was wearing it, that would absolutely be the last time I ever bought a fitbit watch, so - I guess they deemed it better to be absolutely safe and certain, than weasel around it in any way.

Just got my recall kit from Fitbit. Put the Ionic into a battery-safe bag. Put the battery-safe bag into the provided cardboard box. Return label is already on the box. Drop it off at the nearest UPS location.

$300 arrives in 3-6 weeks.

So what are you replacing it with?

Nothing. I’m just not meant to wear a watch 24/7 (or close to it). My skin gets irritated far too easily and it causes a rash.

I had that happen to me with multiple watch bands, but my Garmin Forerunner 245 hasn’t caused a rash and I wear it all the time.
