Repent for the End is Nigh.

MS Flight Sim 2004 is number one 2 weeks in a row and Freddy vs. Jason was on top of the box office for the second weekend in a row. I truly am afraid for my life.

Somehow, I just don’t see the FS 2004 camp and the Freddy v Jason camp as having much in common. Yeah, they’re both Geeks, but we’re talking waaaaaaay different orders of Geekdom for each. Anyone? Bueler? Bueler?

That is why it is a sign of the Apocalypse!!! Just like cats and dogs living together, seas filled with blood, and slasher fans loading up on flight sims.

The more I think about it, the more I’m sure that the flight sim (civ at least) community is really a hobbyist community. I’m a member, and I’ve always felt weird saying “game” when talking about MSFS. There’s really much more similarity to model airplane building in MSFS than to FPS’s. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it either, and the people on the board who are bored with it as a game are totally right that there isn’t enough going on during a flight to really warrent a “gamelike” feeling, like you would in a battle or something like that. That said, there’s all of the hobbyist’s pride in doing something well and in making it as real as it gets, and there is a difficulty/thrill in flying a precision approach in tough weather with other A/C and ATC.

Yeah, I’d say you have it right. I would also include the “hardcore” combat flightsims in this category. Just like there are R/C planes, and then there are “scale” R/C planes.
