Bill Taylor is the dream witness that Democrats have asked for. He summarized the corrupt campaign of Trump and his cronies better than anyone ever has. He even dropped a surprise revelation that ties Trump directly to the pressure campaign!
It doesn’t hurt that his voice is the very definition of sonorous. He could have a lucrative career recording audiobooks.
I have so much hope, but deep down, I feel like this is going to go the way of the Kavanuagh hearings.
Hours of compelling, damning testimony followed by a Republic on the committee getting angry and screaming. Then all of the Republicans say, “Well, Jordan was really mad, he must be the one telling the truth! No way he would get mad otherwise!” and everyone moves on.

Except that can’t happen. There will be testimony tomorrow, next week, and the week after.
This is not a single point of outrage Trump can pivot off of.
There’s one key difference.
If you were displeased with how the Senate hearings on Kavanaugh went, it was fairly unlikely that as a voter you’d be able to express that displeasure at the ballot box, because none of the Senators involved might be running in your home state that particular election cycle. And ultimately, as a voter, you never got a chance to vote for or against Kavanaugh, either.
Voters in 2020 will get to vote on some more senators. And ultimately, they get to vote for or against the subject of the investigation himself.

I really appreciated Taylor’s point that Ukraine was and is in the middle of a Democratic renaissance, with an entirely new and very young group of people in charge of the country, and that they are trying their best to become more Western, in the face of very real aggression by Russia to prevent it.
And then Trump just shits all over them by trying to drag them into the mud in order to further his own personal political goals.

That’ll remain operable until Lt. Col. Vindman testifies. (I mean, not really, but they’ll keep trying)
