How moderate is Cobb?
I could see a moderate Dem winning that seat, punishing Stefanik for going all MAGA bullshit, but a liberal Democrat backed by a bunch of money from outside the district? Not sure that’s gonna play.
She must be fairly moderate. She represented a chunk of that district in the New York legislature.
And when she was defeated by Stefanik in 2018, a significantly greater percentage of Cobb’s campaign funding came from within the district, compared to Stefanik–who was recognized early by the NRCC as a last-ditch firewall.

That’s good then. Punishing anyone who embraces Trump’s nonsense is exactly what needs to happen.
He’s referring to Tim Morrison’s testimony. Morrison is likely to be one of the big deals in this thing, and if he gives open testimony it could be…interesting.
Ah, that explains why “70% of Americans” is trending.
Also, 51% saying “Impeached AND removed” (caps mine for emphasis) is high, and notable for being over a majority. (Other pollsters have gotten higher numbers on approval for impeachment by simply saying things like “Should the president be impeached?” or asking if the impeachment process is valid…but avoiding or asking in a separate question about impeachment and removal.)
And for some fun…

I had to stop and scroll back up from the second image because my brain instinctively read his name as Matt Gaetz after seeing the first. What an unfortunate similarity.
Yeah, it’s kind of a running joke with his twitter. His feed blows up every time Gaetz shoves his head up his ass.
Is there a good chart on the changes in public opinion over time?
In a random discussion on discord, somebody claimed that impeachment only happened because Trump was attacking Hunter Bidden, and the establishment just wanted to protect the gravy train.
This may not be up to the minute, but it’s useful:

Hey, this is Hugh Hewitt who @strollen assured me was a Very Serious Conservative and a voice I should listen to. :P
Eeyore here. 70% of Americans think it’s wrong, but they didn’t ask the crucial followup question. Will you vote for Trump anyway? At least half of them will, because they’re racist and/or greedy.
Truth sucks!
And even with the thoroughness of that FiveThirtyEight chart, as it notes, there’s still wiggle room.
Different pollsters ask the question differently, and use different wording, and all of that matters.
But the specific wording of “Impeach and remove”, I don’t think I’ve seen a really, really strong pollster get to over 46-48% on. Maybe, and I just have forgotten it.
Anyone have thoughts on why none of the polls 538 has up rate higher than a B- since Nov 2nd? The last A+ pollster was Monmouth from Oct 30th-Nov 2nd, but more recent polls aren’t sample size issues.
I don’t get excited OR depressed by single polls anymore.

Are these polls supposed to make us feel better?
Because they make me genuinely sad that most people will literally not change their minds regardless of the evidence in front of them.
Like, it seriously reduces my respect for humanity, and interest in other people.
I like to believe (because living in a fantasy world is nice) that the GOP is shrinking faster then people realize, and what we are seeing is a more extreme GOP because of it.
I have no basis for this belief, but it does make me feel better.
They should by a comparison with history, I suppose.
In 1973 and 1974, with the New York Times, Washington Post and a robust AP and UPI breaking a steady stream of Watergate stories and revelations about the Plumbers, potentially illegal campaign slush funds, and evidence that implicated every member of President Nixon’s inner circle, impeach and removal didn’t poll over 50% until the smoking gun tape was released.
The very act of impeachment kind of should be a default setting of really unpopular with a hefty majority of the electorate. For most presidents, there’s an almost daily or weekly struggle to make the best decision on questions where all of the answers are pretty bad, and you’re having to pick the best bad answer. Those impossible decisions are hard, but have to be made by a thoughtful President and he or she should be allowed to make them without fear of impeachment as a too-easy way to show displeasure.

These aren’t “impossible decisions.” They’re mafia boss type shit.
50% of Americans don’t mind being run by a banana republic warlord. That’s sad.
