Exactly. Very few self-made rich people are stupid. Certainly none of the people we discuss in the billionaires thread fall into the category. One of the argument for having a higher estate tax is to keep large quantities of money out of the hands of stupid people.

I’m not sure if Trump was smarter when he was younger, but he is clearly stupid now. Neither of his sons is also very bright.

I’ve pointed this out before but I think this really insults poor people. I get your point but that’s just not what he is. He’s what a stupid person thinks a rich person is like. Trump is beyond any sort of reasonable behavior. Just because you don’t have money doesn’t mean you would in any way, shape, or form think that Trump and his family are anything remotely like a normal person with money.

Culturally, Trump is a vile piece of shit. Nothing more, nothing less.

Trump acts as someone who has no class, and had never been exposed to the finer things in life.

It’s fair though that this is different from simply being poor. You don’t need to be rich to understand why eating a steak well done with ketchup is bad. You don’t need to be rich to know why having everything clad in gold is gaudy.

The thing is, if someone had never been exposed to such things, and didn’t understand how to behave in “polite society”, then it could be understood as simple ignorance.

But Trump is just an asshole piece of shit. He has no sense of taste. He has no class. For someone who golfs every few days, he totally lacks any sense of etiquette, which is kind of a big thing in golf. Like when that picture came up with him driving a golf cart onto a green. He apparently thought this was fine, because, “he owned the place”. But it shows a disrespect for everyone else who plays. A disrespect for the game itself.

This lack of disrespect permeates every aspect of Trump’s existence. He respects nothing, no matter how big or small.

As my mother in law is fond of saying, “you can’t buy good taste”

So basically we all agree with IL that Trump is not a cultured man of sophistication. Great. So why we were all making snide responses to IL?

Even when playing golf he’s known for driving the cart onto the green, not raking the sand trap after walking through it, and of course cheating. Even when it comes to what appears to be his favorite thing he does it with zero class or consideration of others.

Volker is banging nails into the coffin. I am looking forward to how Castor and the Republicans try to dig up from this.

What Trump is not is working class or middle class. He’s rich.

Did someone say he was supposed to be a Republican witness?

Because the internet.

Because many of us are middle- or working-class, and therefore take umbrage with Trump’s level of culture being equated with ours? Rare is the moment I get to be a snob, but I’ll take this one.

It was basically saying everyone of the “lower” classes is just like Trump.

That Trump isn’t dumb, he’s just culturally “middle class” or whatever.

Also IL has a history.

Um, because he tried to conflate definitions of the word “class”. I know a lot of working class people with lots of “class”, especially compared to trump. Being an inconsiderate buffoon does not make one “working class” culturally. Frankly it’s a huge insult to working class people to even make the claim.

Yes, these are both witnesses the GOP members requested.

I’ll stop thread derailing and let this die, but I’m still genuinely puzzled. I don’t see a single thing in what IL said about Trump that calls for anything like the response it got unless one is reading a lot of sinister context into the statement from some history I’m unaware of.

Thrag covered it.

And again, he has a history. A long one.

This, plus IL was trying to use it to justify the idiocy of Trump’s tax cuts somehow not benefiting the country club crowd.

So back to the subject, these are the GOP’s witnesses and they’ve said… basically nothing to support Trump. At best Volkner is a way to blame it all on Rudy if they want to take that route, but… that’s about it.
