What happens next depends on the results of the inevitable conversation McConnell is going to have with Trump, telling him that he must throw Guiliani under the bus.

If the President refuses, we continue with the “we don’t care” strategy, which could have election implications in the Senate and White House.

But McConnell is a smart guy and knows an off-ramp when he sees it. At this point it’s totally possible to scapegoat Rudy as the guy who tied Trump’s totally innocuous call for corruption investigations to Biden.

And no voters give a shit about Rudy. If Trump disowns him, he’s done.

I don’t think throwing Giuliani under the bus really solves anything for the Republicans. Trump is on the call asking Zelensky to investigate the Bidens. It doesn’t matter if it was originally Giuliani’s idea; it’s still Trump’s responsibility not to commit crimes.

So I don’t think Trump will be asked to throw Giuliani under the bus. He will probably do it anyway, though, because he does stupid mean things for no reason.

Logic has nothing to do with this. Trump won’t be “asked” to throw Rudy under the bus, he’ll do it all on his own because he’ll do anything to save himself regardless of whether it makes any sense.
