Does anyone else hate links to paywalls? I hate links to paywalls :(

Yeah but it’s Peggy Noonan still so transfixed by that imaginary bright shining city on the hill that she can’t see that Reagan’s Camelot vision has turned into dust and ash.

Narrator: “It was never more than a painted placard on a crumbling wall in the first place.”

My prediction: they plan to make the case that there was corruption on the part of the Bidens in order to normalize the request, so they will call witnesses to that effect.

Weird. I was able to read it earlier, but when I go now the paywall is there.

Yup.

There is no bottom to Lindsey Graham’s shame. I don’t know why it continues to surprise me

I’m over a day late on this and that clip might be the funniest thing I’ve heard this entire cursed year. Thank you.

Frightening. Even more so, what is he doing now?

Smart, sobering and ultimately depressing piece by David Roberts. There’s no solutions offered here, but Roberts articulates a framework with which to understand the world we now live. Entire piece is well worth reading. There are too many paragraphs to quote, so I’ll just paste the conclusion.

(TL, DR: We’re fucked.)

The machine was primed and waiting for someone like Trump. Now, with his erratic and indefensible conduct, he is accelerating the breach, pushing the right into ever-more cult-like behavior, principles laid aside one after another in service of power.

That is what a tribalist like Trump wants: for communication and compromise across tribal lines to become impossible, so that loyalty becomes the only measure and everything is reduced to pure struggle for dominance. If he makes it through impeachment unscathed, he and the right will have learned once and for all that facts and evidence have no hold on them. Both “sides” have free rein to choose the facts and evidence that suit them. Only power matters.

If the right’s epistemic break becomes final and irreparable, as impeachment threatens, then no matter what happens in the next election, American democracy is in for a long spell of trouble.

Yep. As much as possible, the Republicans will attempt to co-opt this into a vehicle to attack “corruption” in the Democratic party.

The drumbeat about process really fits into the approaches outlined by Roberts, too. Nunes’s endless whining, the stunts, the dumbass signs, the staged bullshit ‘silencing’ of Stepanik – all can be shuffled and reheated to make it look like the evil Dems are doing secretive closed-door hearings and not letting the poor Republicans get a word in edgewise. Mockery of a travesty of a sham, kangaroo court, etc.

The White House and the Senate are literally controlled by traitors.

Can you not see that our intelligence services are corrupt, so we need Ukraine to do a proper investigation?

It would be nice if the media would be all over them asking why they let their colleagues in the house parrot lies they know are not true and detrimental to US security, but I’m sure they will both sides it or softball them like normal.

Sweet, sweet Rubles. Trump party has become addicted to them.
