The sad thing is that Trump passionately believes every word in that letter. He is delusional, and the 25th Amendment is a much more appropriate remedy than impeachment and removal.

Harry Truman reportedly wrote angry letters, like the time a critic wrote a scathing review of Truman’s daughter’s singing performance and Harry wrote that he was going to sock the guy in the eye next time he saw him, but then would put those letters in a drawer.
Trump needs a drawer and the wisdom to use it.
For a guy so obsessed with his brand and how history will judge him, the doesn’t give two hoots about what he writes.

It’s clear the GOP strategy from the get go has been to whip the public into a frenzy that this is an outrageous abuse of congressional power, and are preventing the properly elected President from getting a ‘real’ first term. They already know that the President won’t be removed because they have the votes in the Senate, but they are going the extra yard to turn it into a weapon. The letter is just another way to do that, it’ll be quoted on Fox from here till the next election.
Even on NPR it seems like all the commentators have already bought into the idea that voting for impeachment will hurt the Ds electorally, because the presumption is that it is unpopular. Never mind that the polls do not suggest that at all, at worst it suggest that it is divisive.
I can see how this would bring out the deplorables in 2020, and even people who were thinking of not bothering to vote Trump in 2020 yet now have to because the Democrats are trying to destroy democracy. They aren’t going to lay down next year, and I hope the good side won’t lay down either nor give them an inch in their fantastical conception of current reality.
