There’s a senator named ‘Crapo’?
Trying not to giggle.
Seriously, this is important business!

So are Dems gonna have to get their own daddy government?
I vote New Zealand!
The hope, it burns!

Ahh, that’s better. Back to my eternal gloom.
“Mitch we’re going to acquit him anyway, literally nothing they say will change our vote, so why rock the boat with procedure changes?”
There is no hope. Feel better?

Schiff is, as usual, tearing the GOP BS apart. He’s currently wrecking the notion that in Senate impeachment trials they never gather new evidence. Shame it probably doesn’t matter.
As a side note the Senate AV Club is much more on point than the House’s. They’ve had all the slides and video clips up right on cue.

Schiff is the best hope the Democrats have to save the country. He’s so much better at this than anyone else in the house.

I’ve been really impressed with Schiff throughout the various Trump ordeals. He seems very smart and effective, which is probably why the Right hates him so. Kind of a stark contrast to their golden idol.

The Trump defense is apparently to rehash the same parade of bullshit that house members yelled about during hearings but this time in a calmer voice.

Michael Moore likes it.
The question of whether they can be held accountable for lying is interesting. I’m guessing no.
What would the normal mechanism be for that in a trial? Contempt of court?
I would think in this case it would be contempt of Congress. But then, we all pretty much have that these days.
I hope he runs for President some day. But, I’d be honored to have his obituary. “Made an extremely effective case to impeach America worst president ever”.

Could the House do contempt of congress unilaterally for an action in the Senate?
Could they declare it contempt of the House impeachment managers?
If they get both branches, they should change the law so that perjury during an impeachment trial is a crime, but ex post facto means it wouldn’t apply here.
They’re not sworn in, right?
Only slightly calmer, apparently.
So I’ve long since realized that every single GOP senator is basically a corrupt, power-hungry worm (their agreement to roll in Trump’s offal for three years and willingness to go for another four, proves it), but I’m a bit disappointed with Roberts.
He’s going to preside over this affair - as a life-long judge, you’d think he’d feel at least some shame over being asked to preside over what the GOP are clearly turning into a sham. Even if he doesn’t have direct control, he surely has influence, and one would think he should be able to rein in the worst excesses of the GOP. But it seems he intends to just sit above the fray and let them do whatever they want. While surely very constitutional, I’m not sure history will judge that as kindly as he hopes, if this ends up being as obvious a farce as the GOP seem to intend it to be.
